We have recently upgraded from a trailer tent to a caravan and decided to take it to a local campsite to check everything works and decide what was needed then we can sort it out before the bigger holidays next year.

It started off quite funny actually (I don't know if I should admit this lol, but I will) we got the car and van almost together and then we thought we would just manually pull the van to the car but we forgot to lift the legs like idiots it was funny when we realised lol when we got to the site this family arrived at the same time as us with their Bailey Ranger as it was similar to ours I asked him where the pink liquid went ( I had had the manual out and still could not figure it out (lots of other people had said we should not forget the pink liquid) so he came over could not suss it out so he called his dad on the mobile he didn't know we was all baffled,it turns out that we don't need the pink stuff after all apart from a few bits here and there we had a great time and the van only has one issue relly and that is the water intake with the filter could not get it working so I just filled the onboard tank and used that instead I am going to look into installing an inline filter

Yes I know but we don't have the system that requires the pink liquid that was the problem ours is electric flust from onboard tank so we just put blue liquid in the loo.

LOL, we all start off like this don't worry. Its part of the fun.

Our main tip is make sure your hitched up correctly (when we first had a trailer tent many moons ago) I turned left and trailer tent went straight on, oops

well done on your first trip out, there is always a learning curve and i have been caravanning over 8 years, just a point on your toilet, fresh water from you main tank will not keep the bowl clean, after a while it will start to discolour.i recommend you use a pre-spray.

our first trip out the dealer had advised that nose weight would be about ok if I could lift the front of the van.  Couldn't budge it.  - moved stuff to the back - still heavy as lead eventually it dawned that the rear legs were down and I was trying to lift the whole van!  Wound them up and the van front shot up as all the weight ws in the back!

We started caravanning this year and have had various "doh!" moments.  The first two times we hitched up and started off, after going round and round the van checking everything three times, we only got a few hundred yards and realised we had not put the towing mirrors on, to the amusement of the neighbours.  Third time out  we remembered but had a puncture on site and OH had not got the right size wrench thingie as he assumed the car one would fit the van, which is Polish and a different size tyre nut.

Happy vanning

Carol

I have tried to fill an already full toilet flush tank after already putting the pink stuff in! We ended up with double strong flush (uber smelly lol)! Also pitched on a site that needed wooden blocks under the back legs - except we did not have any lolol! Also pitched van several times (3 or 4 times this year), then realised we need to level the van side to side, after de-coupling the car! So we had to re-couple the car to push or pull the van up the levelling ramp! I felt like a complete moron every time but at least we can laugh about it! Do not worry about silly mistakes & remember setting up is not a rece so if you get it wrong, pour another beer, laugh loudly and try again!
