Winter is here, and we'll be off during the Festive Season to the Highlands. Our usual method of avoiding having a frozen water container is to encase the whole sheebang in 1" thick polystyrene and then bubble wrap it, finishing off with some H/D shrinkwrap clingfilm. The hose is covered with some Climatube from tank to caravan, and that usually takes care of it in even the coldest weather.

Anyone got a better, or alternative, idea?

We've not needed to insulate ours to date - got as low as -4 last month. But we are away for new year. We currently use an on-board water container which is fidely to get in when full of water so are thinking of buying a water hog.  I know you can buy insulated covers for these containers but some people say they don't use anything and have no porblems with water freezing! I would think the pipes/pumps would freeze rather than a full water container.

I think we need to give some thought on how to insulate these.

I use an old anorak, with the pipe work down one of the arms.

Zip it up and tuck it round. Being waterproof it doesn't get soggy in the rain.

Never seen the Aquaroll thingy before Mav21, looks much better than my bodged up wraparound, but basicly the same. Santa might bring one this year. (hint, hint)

We've had serious freezing problems only once over the years; minus 14 over one night and best day temperature of minus 5 for three days, so that was a bit out of the ordinary. We just pulled everything inside and used water from the barrel in the end, and have used the polystyrene, bubble wrap and cling film method ever since, with (touch wood), no problems. It looks a bit naff though!
