I'd trace the neutral from the battery back to earth and remake the connection

the "negative" lead from the battery will not be earthed to the chasis.it will connected to the control panel in the same way as the "positive".
if the gradual failure of the internal apparatus is not due to a flat battery then the most likley cause will be a bad connection, probably getting warmer and warmer as you use the power and so causing the lights e.t,c. to get dimmer and dimmer.
to trace the fault, start at the battery and check both positive and negative leads, and trace them into the van and through to the control panel. you may come across a loose or burning wire.if you can't find any thing you need to start with a voltmeter.
