Hi it depends on what your looking for.We started caravaning a few years ago.Started out by buying a cheap van doing it up and selling on with a profet. We have been doing this until september this year when finally we was able to buy the van we wanted. The way things are at the moment i would say you are in a good position to buy a nice van for that.
thanks Gary. Just looking at possibilities at the minute as holidays are so expensive and tenting is now too much hassle for the OH. Too hot in Spain too!
------------- Dogs die in hot cars!
They also die if you leave them in the freezer.
Please keep your dogs at room temperature!
Storage costs? how long is a piece of string comes to mind, depending on where abouts you live effects the price, and then depends where you go for storage, some sites you could be paying very little in a farm yard for something with no security, or you could go to a gold storeage and pay hundreds and hundreds of pounds, you pays your money and takes your choice, also some area you may find it hard to get storeage and other areas theres plenty of places available that also effects the price.
But good luck
------------- "PACESETTERS" German Shepherd dog display team, we are out and about raising money for guide dogs.
We started with a £600 one and then went onto get a £1900.00 one, as you can see we didnt spend that much but still have quite a nice older van that does the job beautifully, just look for one thats not completely sodden with damp and start having some lovely holidays, a cheapie van is a good start so you get the idea of what you want/need in your next van.
both our vans have been cheap ones so far, the first cost £200, this one £300both been absolutly fine for their age, a few bits needed sorting on both vans,
our next one we are aiming on spending similar to you, and hope to upgrade a touch at the same time.
Hi good luck with your caravan hunting , but PLEASE PLEASE DO A CRIS CHECK FIRST !!!! And don`t get caught like and end up with a stolen van and looks like i`am goin to loose it .
We paid 1k for a 1991 Buccaneer off eBay and its immaculate, so well made and looks like the seats have never been sat on. We pay £20 a month for storage in a barn on a local farm.
Remember to keep a bit of cash back to buy any bits and pieces for the van and maybe an awning, we were also very lucky on eBay and got a £1500 isabella one for £250.
You can get a lovely van for that money at this time of year, like has already been said, make sure its not damp. Then all you have to do is get out there and enjoy it. And remember one thing, Its not what it costs, it depends on how much pleasure it gives you.
On the cheap van topic - remember a holiday for a family renting a static or a cottage / apartment etc will cost you around £500 - £700 in school holidays (unless you want something luxurious then you can double the cost lol), so 1 week away in a wreck of a caravan is almost 'free'!! The more you spend, the nicer the van will be (newer, better equipped, less likely to be damp etc). But some cheapies are an absolute bargain - if you spend £1500 and manage 2 or 3 week holidays away then it will owe you nothing. Go for it and if you enjoy it get a nicer van and a cheapo car to tow with - you use the car to get from A to B so have a nice van and a rough car
