I wasn't sure if the Truma would work on gas and electric together so I asked Truma? yes it will and as said 'if' it begins to overheat the electric side will trip out safely.

I would say though, set the fan speed to maximum and the switch to 'A'utomatic to make sure the fans capable of moving what is over 5kw of heat about!

We usually put the leccy and heating on a couple of days before we go away so that it's aired nicely.  When we get to where we are going we put it on high for a start then usually have it ticking over on 500 day and night, thats usually enough, Don't think we've had to use the heating on gas since we got the van.

This time of year between trips we leave a halogen heater in there on a timer with all the cupboard doors open, it doesn't make it warm but it just keeps the chill off.

Perhaps Gary could answer this, does the halogen heater use less electric than the caravan heater? we are under the illusion that it does.

We've got the common Halogen heater and it's rated at 600w on half and 1200w on maximum so much the same as the Truma on it's two lower setting.

The difference with Halogen is they are radiant heaters rather than convector's like the Truma or Carver, this means it has the effect of heating you directly rather than through the air around you.

When we go away in the winter we turn the heating on at home for a few days before we go, airs the van and starts the warm up of the interior. We leave the heating on 500w all night and one of us usually turns it up about an hour before we want to get up. I hate being cold and never have been for long in the van.

Never realised the gas and electric could be used at the same time.  Rather useful to know that.
