Actually you could get a 98 R reg for roughly 3-4k for a good one. These have diesel engines that will run for ever if well looked after. The later TD5 was not as reliable.

Check on any Landrover website.

This would leave enough to put it on the road - tax and insurance - and have a bit left over for a new awning or gadgets in the sales !!
