When we bought our caravan last October we had a number of accessories thrown in as a package which included a Dorema Starcamp awning. I purchased a tie down kit as we have had a few bad experiences when we were tenting. Unfortunately when I tried to fit it the straps would not fit the sewn in fittings on the awning. The tie down had 3 prongs and the central one would not allow me to insert it into the roof fitting. In the end I had to cut the central pin off the strap leaving just the 2 outer prongs but I'm not sure if I have weakend tha system by doing this.
I'm not sute how old the awning actually is, it might be an old 2007 model that that the dealer had lying around, so is it possible that Dorema changed the roof fitting over th last few years?

Yes Paul thats the one I bought from the dealer but it does not fit. It seems that the fitting attached to the awning ( the safe lock clip) has a piece of plastic down the centre which kind of splits the fitting into 2 partitions internally. This obstructs the centre prong hence I had to cut it off the strap. Obviously I did'nt want to damage the awning so thought it was better to butcher the strap rather than the clip fitting.

We have 2 sets of tie down kits. The first ones we got are Fiamma the same as pictured in one of the posts above,we brought 2 sets of them. They was purchased to hold down our frame tent on a very windy night in sept 2006 i remember it well lol ....it survived the wind though some of the other tents did,nt !!!! Then we got caravan and a pyramid awning and brought their tie down kit as like you say the black plastic fittings are different in size to our previous kit. Have now changed van and brought porch awnings sunncamp scenic plus and a starcamp quattro. We now use both kits. With a D ring it is perfect for the scenic we thread the 2 outer poles through that and then peg down.Quattro then has the other set with a change of head.We still have the other size head in caravan in case its needed for anything else ....sue .. .
On our third awning (mice eat first and the wind wrecked the other) none have the same fitting so I got two cheap ratchet straps(light luggage type) and a couple of screw in dog stakes. If its not too windy I fit one each end or if its a bit rougher I can link the two straps right over the top of awning.
i fit our tie down straps to the awning whatever the weather for the simple reason as many will know, the weather can change over night to a force 10.i do not want to be out in the middle of the night tieing down.was once at moffat, thought we had lost the awning that night it was really bad.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
Yes we make it a habit now, tie down goes on what ever the weather just to be sure does,nt take 2 mins to do saves a lot of hassle ........sue.........
