One site we went to in Devon had an awning on a seasonal pitch. During some really windy weather, part of the awning collapsed.  I informed the site owner and he came along and put things right. I offered to help if it was needed.  So I wouls d say that you have four things to consider:

(a) is an awning permitted?  (b) if so, make sure the awning is very firmly erected, and ensure the use of storm straps. (c) if the worst still happens, are there likely to be any other campers on site who would draw your attention to a flapping awning?  (d) could you rely on the site owner to rectify the situation on being informed of a problem?

I deliberately omitted the possibility of campers taking direct action to deal with the matter.  Whilst such help might be given, there are many ways that a good samaritan can be legally tripped up that, for me, I would only help after obtaining permission from the site owner or his/her employee.

Bertie.

On the whole, other seasonal pitch holders and site owners do keep an eye on "unoccupied" property.  So when an awning starts flapping in the wind, if someone is knocking about the site, they will usually peg it down firmer to stop any damage.  Unfortunately, if your awning isn't made to withstand storm conditions or there's nobody around, then you'll probably get some damage. Our awning withstood every gale that was thrown at it last year, from mid-March to the end of October in East Devon and our pitch is on high ground.  The only problem we had was that someone who lives with me, and shall remain nameless, left the roof hatch open (not one of the big ones thank goodness) through a week of torrential rain and hail the size of tennis balls.

A site we use regularly has at least 20 seasonal pitches with awnings erected for the season. I have never seen a porblem yet.

A good quality awning pegged down properly, with storm straps can withstand an awful lot of bad weather.

enjoy your site
