Our friends have now got a small hole in their caravan roof due to a tile coming off the roof of their house last night.

It is due to go in for a service soon but in the mean time is it best to put some sealant/mastic on it?

It does need covering straight away to stop damp ingress

Status do a blanking plate for when a roof aerial is removed and something like that would make a good repair

Just heard from friend, he is going to put some mastic on it today and then ring the dealer for advice.

Apparently it is really small but a definate puncture!

The excess on the house insurance would probably be more than the cost of a repair unles a new roof is envisaged

I patch of some sort would seem to be the best option

If its very small holea 13 am socket blanking plate would do

They probably would not have been aware of it for a while if a tile had not also hit their car!

Luckily something can be done about it today.

i use parcel tape,that brown stuff.dry off and it sticks like glue.i was told pond liner tape was hard to beat by a caravan engineer. have been thinking about this for some time and i intend to put large lip onto the rain channel to stop tiles sliding down. if it was mine i would go for johns suggestion.dont forget the sealer.

For a permanent repair stick a piece of plastic on the hole with sikaflex 512 or any other polyurethane adhesive/sealant. Dont use silicone sealant its not permanent.

You can buy thick aluminum tape that has very strong adhesive qualities, I have seen some in big DIY stores or buy through EBay.

When I was in the RAF we used the same stuff for battle damage repairs on jet aircraft, (shell holes etc), it would withstand 500mph and good enough to fly the aircraft low level to a maintenance base.

 I think it would be a good enough a permament repair as any for a small hole or tear, easy to paint over too. Saves messing about with gunky mastic.

Hi guys I'm new year, I have a 1994 2 berth caravan and in high winds my skylights got blown away, I've tried various things to fix, but from water seeping in I've just put a taurpoline sheet over the top.
Any advise on how to fix the holes ( big holes at that) as cant find skylights for my caravan.
The caravan is just sitting in the garden.
Any help, advise would be amazing
