We use the silica gel too, and have about 4 positioned in different spots. Works wonders.

Sorry to be nosey, but what is the difference in your van between using it and not using it? what is it that cinstitutes the phrase "works wonders"?

Ours is stored for most of winter and although it is cold inside, it is dry. Not sure what difference a dehumidifyer would make.

Steve.

We have never encountered condensation in our van when it is not being used!  Surely you need the van warmer inside for condensation to happen!  Neither have we used any silica products as I imagine they simply draw in moisure from the air that is constantly circulationg in the van..

I agree, we don't move anything or use any silica products either. It's like emptying your house if you go away for the winter. No point!

I am sure nothing is as good as fresh air. We use jel packets, and have tried a bowl of salt, which seem to improve even further. But ventilation is what you need

These are all excellent tips, and we certainly use a dehumidifier when not in use.

I should have made myself more clear (Martyn's post drew out the issue); we seem to have overnight condensation while using the caravan in winter.

Might try the silica tip for overnights.

SALT SALT SALT!!!! Bowls of it all over the van and in cupboards and never had any damp, stored outside with no cover, just had service and no signs of damp, salt goes rock hard and has to be changed but even the loo rolls in the cupboard were bone dry.

Get an Eriba---no problem.

Lots of ventilation!! Even in storage, leave a couple of windows on vent(yes even this time of year!!).My hubby works for a window company and is constantly being asked by customers about condensation and windows that are absolutely running with it and thats his answer everytime. And i have to say it works!! We never get condensation in our van or house at all. You have to have the air circulating all the time. When we go on holiday i see all these vans with wet windoews and i feel like saying ' open one of them and they'll be dry'!!!

As has been said previously caravans are so well ventilated what is the point of either a dehumidifier or silica products. There is fresh air coming in all the time so you can never dry the air out. A caravan in storage should not get condensation. As someone said dont mix up condensation and coldness.

In winter when using a caravan and gas heaters you may get condensation but remember you should Always use gas appliances with suitable ventilation and that will stop undue condensation.

We have today just come back from a four day break and every night we had condensation on the windows and under the seats. We had a window on nightlatch and some silica gel yet stll had the problem. We didn't use gas for anything as we have a 500w electic oil heater.

We have come to the conclusion that it must be the boiling of the Kettle and using the Remoska that gives out steam that causes the condisation.

While the caravan is on our front and not in use we have a 500w oil heater on low in  it all the time. we do get a small amount of condistation behind the cushions so now remove the cusions from the wall.

We have loads of air vents but still get the condisation problem during the winter.
