We have a 2007 524. If your switches are the same as ours, there's 3 by the door - the one nearest the door (with a small LED indicator) is for the awning light (don't use it too much when on not on mains, as it uses a lot of power). The other two are 'master' switches for the rest of the interior lights - we have one that controls the lights in the bathroom, plus the light over the side dinette, and the second one controls the rest of the lights. These switches are really useful - they mean you can leave a light/lights switched on at the light itself (all the lights have their own switches) and switch them off as you leave/on when you return without having to feel your way round in the dark!
Can't answer the bed questions, I'm afraid - our layout is different.
As for the 'van as a whole, we love ours. We've had very few problems (got ours new), adn have used it extensively. The bed is incredibly comfortable, the 'van in cosy and welcoming, the fact that the little table between the front seats pulls out instead of folds out is great as you don't have to completely empty it every time!!
Enjoy your new 'van.
