I wonder if anyone can help. we have just put our caravan on a seasonal pitch. The campsite owners advise that we have to take our awning down everytime we leave which is quite understandable. The majority of our trips will be Fri - Sun and so we will be putting the awning up and down quite a lot. We have a full awning with annex and a portch awning. The portch is quite quick to erect, but the full one takes quite a bit longer. We really wanted something larger than a portch but still quick to put up and down. We also plane to use the caravan for in excess of a week from time to time and ideally the awning would cater for that too.

We thought that the PDQ excel might be the answer, but have read several less than flattering reviews here. WE therefore wondered if anyone out there could HELP??

All advice will be much appreciated.

Many thanks

Shaun and Emma

I have the PDQ awning and have never had any problems. My only suggestion is, unless you are very tall or have exceptionally long arms, carry a small stepladder with you. It makes it so much easier for packing it away

What about the Royal awning, the 3 arch ones are nearly as big as a fll size.

We have a full Bradcot awning with alloy poles, we often go away for just one night/two days (husbands mower racing weekend hobby) but always put our awning up for the extra space, my husband can now have the awning up and pegged out in less than 20 mins, about the same time to take it down and folded away.  After having seen other mower racing people taking longer to put up cheaper style tent like awnings i would not change ours for anything.  The alloy poles are a doddle to tighten, you just pull to tension and press button to release and you have the added bonus of a fully waterproof/windproof useful room.

Thanks to everyone for all this useful info. One thing I forgot to add is that my Wife will often go on her own with my daughter (who is only 10), and I plan to join her late in the evening. Ideally the awning would be able to be erected by one person! A big ask i know but I am still ever hopeful!

Hi there in Somerset... I got an Awning Rail fixed to the top of my van (by White Arches near Wellingborough) and something called Kador Gusset (sounds exciting ... from Khyam.). I reckon the Motordome is for vans but you can get a smaller one for caravans. See  http://www.campingworld.co.uk/Models.aspx?ModelID=2042 .
I'm a newy to this game but ... I think it's very clever ... it is honestly on its feet in a couple of minutes. I've got a 20ft van but it's worth having a look at.

Hi peterlesley, I was looking at those at the NEC. they are really good and well made (as you would expect from Apache). At the moment I have one of the cheaper ones made in the same style and am happy with it but when it breaths its last I will go with the far more sustantial (and more expensive) Apache. Its got the solidity of a normal frame porch but the looks and ease of the tunnel style.
