Hi folks, i have just bought a abi award globestar caravan 1992, i cannot get the electric heating system working and my hot water heater is only heating up on gas, this means when the heater has emptied of water it runs cold and i get goose bumps in the shower. i have heard that there is a switch i have to put on but i cannot find it, any ideas anyone?

Many thanks.

The 1992 Globestar was not fitted with electric heating, the fire is gas only, electric heating came with the 1995 award vans. On the water heater there is a red button on the end of the tank, you probably need to press this to reset it mind for using it with the shower the gas heater is far more efficient at heating the water, the electric element is only something like 750watts and takes nearly twice as long to heat the water up as the gas.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

I'm absolutely no expert on this but I wonder what you mean by 'when the heater has emptied of water'.  Do you mean you've simply run out of hot water, or do you mean the hot water tank is completely empty?  If your tank is empty then your pump is'nt refilling it like it should.

My Abi Cricket is a 1992 model and I put the heater on for 15 mins and I have plenty of hot water for a shower and that's turning it off just before I run the shower.

Just in case you're new to caravanning, make sure your aquaroll has plenty of water in it before you shower otherwise you won't be able to adjust the temperature of the water with cold water.  Been there, done that one

Good luck, the Globestar is a nice van!

Jazzycats.

Have you checked the drain tap? I have left the inline drain tap open on my van loads of times then realised that the water was pumping out of the van as well as through the pipes.

Worth a check any way

Standard showering technique for a caravan is to use the shower to wet yourself all over, turn the shower off, wash yourself, then wash your hair, then turn the shower back on and rinse yourself off. If you leave it running all the time you had better be very quick as you have 10 litres of hot water to mix with the clod water so this means about 20 litres or less of acceptably hot water which will run for only about 4 mins or so before running cold.

You have a van which providing it is dry is just about as well put together as you are likley to find, enjoy it.
