Took our caravan for service, everything ok except that the ront panel has a crack and is due to be replaced under warranty. Question is will the van be the same? will the repair (complete front panel) last or will the same problem reoccur after a while. Would you keep the van or part ex it while it is still worth something?. Lots of thing to think about. Its a Bailey 2004 Discovery. Any thoughts most welcome.

I suppose it depends on what caused the problem in the first place. If it was a weakness in the original panel then a new one should solve the problem completely. The van is 5 years old so when would you expect to change it? The repair should be good for a few years if not for always so there seems no rush to change the van unless you want to.

I would guess the cracking is caused by flexing, I take it you havent been levelling the caravan with the corner steadies?

Or it could just be the caravan is built too light & just flexes too much under normal towing conditions. If the workshop cant give you a credible reason as to why it happened in the first place & why it shouldn't happen again once repaired, I would get rid of it once its repaired.

The brand new Bailey next to us in our storage has had to have a new front and the owner said there were quite a few being replaced at the same time.Pehaps the problem may have been corrected with the new front so you may not have any more problems if the job is done properly.Have a word with the company doing the job they may give you some idea why i cracked in the fist place.

They said stress fracture. I do remember some time ago a few people having the same problem with bailey panels cracking. I assumed that we had been lucky but it looks like this is the same problem. I just hope that the replacement panel does not suffer the same problem. I also hope that this has been sorted out at the factory and that new Baileys dont have the same thing happening to them.
