Hi folks, here we go for round two: How to buy a caravan at distance - lol.
I've been offered a Elddis Wisp 450 (1996 model) 1x Double / 2x Single Bunks. I've seen a lot of new vans and info on them, but i can find nothing on the older vans. Can anybody help?
Don't need too much, just was it reliable, were there any major issues. The van is a long way away so before i commit to a long LONG drive i'd like a little unbiased background.
On the up side it does look clean / dry and comes with a full service history and all its original manuals. So it has been looked after; or would appear that way.
We have a 1993 Elddis Typhoon which is a very similar layout to the model you quoted above. Our caravan does have some damp in the front window area caused by the previous owner not sealing around the rails above the windows, we have also had to replace both skylights as plastic had got very brittle and when we washed the caravan they split, other than that, everything else works fine, ours is a well built solid caravan. Just check that all of the rails have been sealed or there is no damp, bear in mind with a caravan of this age the rails if they have not been done will need doing to keep it water tight. The only other niggling thing is the rear grab handles on ours have turned yellow, (shows on a white caravan) we have removed and they do not clean up so we have now painted ours grey and the front grab handles were originally painted white but the paint had flaked off to reveal alluminium, we have also removed these and removed the rest of the white paint, cleaned them up and have laquered them so they now look silver.
We also have to keep a bucket in the front locker as water runs into the locker as the seal does not seal (poor design fault).
Other than the points raised above, we can not fault our caravan for what we paid for it.
Hope the caravan you have seen advertised is as good as you hope.
