Firstly I assume you mean the AlKO Secure Wheel Lock rather than clamp? My understanding is that unless the caravan comes with the AlKo Secure Wheel Lock you have to contact them with the details of a previous lock or a new lock in order to get a removal tool. This is to prevent makes other than AlKo being used.

Greetings All,

I have copied the below from the Al-Ko website. (I hope they don't put me up against a wall for infringing their copyright). They apparently don't want other manufacturuers to use the fixing point on the chassis.

COPY

For all 2008 model caravans, the Al-Ko Secure Receiver fitted to the near side wheel back plate will be delivered with a grub screw inside the threaded post.  This is on all caravan chassis where the AL-KO Secure Wheel Lock IS NOT SUPPLIED as standard with the caravan.

The post will also be covered with a silver label that carries the unique registration code for that grub screw.

This action has been taken to prevent other ‘wheel lock’ products from utilising the receiver which is a patented design element of our Wheel Lock System.

The grub screw can only be removed from the receiver by using a specific adapter, which is only available from AL-KO Kober when a new AL-KO Secure Wheel Lock is registered.  On the silver label there is a unique code that determines which adaptor is required and by providing this code at the time of registering, AL-KO will send out the adapter to allow fitment of the Secure Wheel Lock.

It should be noted that Twin Axle caravans will have two grub screws which could be different, therefore two locks will need to be registered for the customer to receive the two adapters.

Under no circumstances will the adapters be supplied unless AL-KO receives valid lock registrations from the caravan owner.  No registrations will be taken by third parties acting on behalf of the customer.

Once the registration has been satisfactorily completed, AL-KO will send out the adapter - on the next working day - to the address of the caravan owner free of charge.    Included with the adapter will be the yellow watertight bung to be inserted into the thread when the lock is not in use.

AL-KO would also like to remind you that fitting non AL-KO products to any part of the AL-KO chassis could invalidate the warranty of the chassis and its component parts.

We apologise for any inconvenience that this process may cause but assure you that the action has been taken in order to protect your interests, as well as our own, by insisting that you are only able to use a product that has been manufactured and tested to the full Sold Secure “Diamond Standard” thereby ensuring that you have the highest possible security available for your property.  It is the only lock we recommend for use with our receiver, chassis and components.

Please note that if for any reason during your lock registration process you are unable to provide the code for the particular grub screw that is fitted in your receiver, the only way we will be able to send out the correct adaptor is if you can send us a photograph of the end of the grub screw.  (The photograph can be in digital format by email).  The grub screws are not all the same and, periodically,  different ones are added so we do need a clear picture in order to identify which one you have.

Having said all that I understand that Al-Ko's main rival supplies some piece of kit to remove the offending grub screw.

Regards

I do not rate these locks, we got one with our new van and don't use it. It it is very heavy and so inconvenient to use.

Excellent security, but too much hassle.

We use ours as it was supplied with the van but they are a bit of a hassle. Our storage facility wont put them on the van so we had to buy another clamp as well. However when we have the van on site or outside our home we use both. Just a bit more peace of mind for us! Sorry no answer to your particular problem though.

I certainly rate the Al-Ko wheel lock, it's a very good idea IMO. I'd imagine them to be a pain on a twin axle but we got on fine with ours on a single axle van.

You certainly got a cracking reply from Emittdb, something there for us all to learn from. If you've removed & disposed of the seal with the number on it, why not go back to your dealer, if they've sold you the Al-Ko lock surely they should have told you what the situation was with the receiver.

We had a similar issue when we bought our van except it was the dealer who mistakenly removed and binned the foil sticker with the reference number on it. More by luck than chance ours had another small sticker on the side of the receiver which turned out to be the right code. If yours doesn't have this then they will work it out from a photo.

I agree with your point about the lack of instructions. I was also suprised our dealer didn't inform us of the 'grub screw procedure' prior to purchase as our insurance required it fitted - which of course we couldn't do until the removal bit arrived in the post.

In terms of 'ease of use' we've never had a problem. Prior to having a motor mover fitted I used to jack the wheel up and spin it into position (took all of 5 mins) and now less than one minute aligning with the mover.

We got the  Alko wheel lock, hubbys on the mover and i line it up. But we do have a single axle, so it is easier, dont fancy using on a twin axle.

The dealer only sold me the Caravan and this only comes with the inserts fitted no lock. But when i ask them the sales team the qustion they had to ask the service department who came up with the answer.

It was a grea reply from  Emittdb (Much better then the supplier) and good news i have found the seal with the number on stuck it to the side of my tool box must have done this without thinking

One problem with new caravans is how long it takes to sort it out all the bits and reloading all the gaer from the old one. Still have some extra 13amp sockets and TV  bits to do Off for first trip to Morton in the Marsh 21st.

Hi

like a normal bolt with a shaped insert that goes into the grub screw  If you have a AL-KO wheel clamp it is like the bolt you use to lock in the wheel clamp.

Wish i could put picc up
