Would be interested to know other peoples current experience when looking to purchase second hand caravan privately. We are on the hunt for 5 berth touring carvan. Over past few weeks it seems everytime we see what looks like a lovely caravan, as soon as we phone up it is sold. We have seen at least 6 good caravans be sold within a couple of days of being advertised on websites. Are caravans selling privately quicker than ever or is it just the ones we are looking at?
I think you'll find it's a good time to start looking for a second hand caravan, what with it coming into Spring. However, it is very annoying no doubt. Stick with it, i'm sure that the right van is out there for you . Good luck and hope you find something soon.

Despite the credit crunch, my dealer friend tells me new and old vans are going like hot cakes, maybe people aren't going abroad and opting to join us!!

My dealer said the same. He is buying 2nd hand caravans to sell first time he has ever done this. Also new caravans are getting in short supply as manufactures are reducing production.
Judging by the news on the radio this morning Caravan sales are at their highest for 5years? will we have enough Caravan sites? will our roads take all these new Vans will our web site grow bigger!! yippee more new friends, to many questions!! need refreshment back later, all the best to everone.
Some will have visited dealers and asked other caravanners and maybe got proper advice.
But i can see the others now. Petrol 1.4 rover 200 or other small hatchback towing a 24ft twin axle. It was strangely cheap for the size.
It will be packed with all the home comforts, 40" LCD TV, DVD, Games Consoles, Microwave, They try bringing the AGA but it doesnt fit through the door.
Im sure everyone has seen the renault 5 towing a twin axle on youtube?
Maybe you could put a wanted ad in your paper? Someone may be thinking of selling but not got round to it yet, our neighbour is selling his but is waiting til April before advertising it!

We sold our Jamet Louisianne TT and joined the ranks of the shed draggers. I do miss sleeping under canvas but I don't think I could give up my van. Everyone asks if I worry about damp and I actually worry about damp far less with a caravan (just going to monitor it regularly to make sure it never becomes a problem!). I used to constantly worry about the finding damp each time I unfolded the TT despite knowing that I'd left it for ages to dry out before packing it away!
Don't be shy at asking to check any prospective caravan purchase with a damp meter. If the seller says no then run a mile. There are so many ruthless sellers who want the expense of damp repairs to be the next person's headache. Equally, don't worry if you buy a caravan with damp - just make sure it's reflected in the price. If you look for the Wizard/Caradad on here and the Fix It Club you'll see it's not such a daunting task to fix. Good luck!
