Hi folks

Don't know if anyone can help me with this but here goes.... We have booked to go to Losehill Castleton Derbyshire for a weekend in April I notice this is a members only site. We have some friends on the next door farm who would love to try camping/caravanning with their adorable and very well behaved girls ( three of them) We would have the large awning with inner tent so the girl could sleep in there. Do you this the caravan club would allow a pup tent for 2 adults? We would pay for everyone of course but just wondered if you could have 7 people on a pitch 5 being none members. I have tried ring the site itself several times but it always goes onto answerphone.

heres hoping!!!!

Caravan Club sites do not normally allow tents. I have seen probably 2 in the 6 years I have been a member. You do of course pay for each person and as long as the member is one of the people and the pitch is booked in their name then numbers are not normally a problem. You might be able to put the pup tent up in the awning each night and then you should be ok I believe.

The CC book says On sites not advertised as admitting tents ...........................   big snip ......................Other tents may be erectedproviding that they are intended only as additional sleeping accomodation within the bounds of the pitch.

So as far as the pup tent is concerned there is no problem. However, where you might get problems is with the number of people  because the Site rules also state   No caravan may be used by more than a reasonable number of persons. The warden shall be the judge of what is a reasonable number.

There is also the rule that says The caravan and Pitch shall only be used  by the person bringing the outfit onto the site and those accompanying that person  unless permission to do otherwise is obtained from the warden.

So It would seem that you need to keep trying to contact the warden before you go, the tent for the two extra adults will be fine, it is just the wardens permission for the party numbers that could be a problem, though from experience I have seen this sort of thing happen on many sites.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

Some CC sites have tent areas - seems to be mainly ones who as part of their lease must take tents eg Balbirnie Park CC site in Fife.

Hi

Do you mean that your friends live at a farm next door to the campsite?  Why don't they pop over to see the wardens and ask?

Hi,

We have stayed on loads of CC members only site and have erected a pup tent and an awning.  My two daughter (teenagers) would sleep in the pup tent a three man Vango tent and my son in the awning tent..... we never had any problems as long as the tent is only used for sleeping it will be ok.  To put your mind at rest I would still phone the site.

Loose hill caravan park has it's own tent field just as you come into the site. What an excellent choice you have made Loose hill is really nice and in walking distant to Castleton and Hope

Got a result!! a ery nice lady warden from Losehill has been looking into it for me and has just rung me back and said no problem at all as long as it is a pup tent and on the pitch itself! and they just paid the normal price of £4.70 per adult and £1.50 per child per night!! I am so chuffed.there was no bother at all as to being 7 people on the pitch.
