If when you arrive the pitch it has nice freshly cut grass and has been dry for a while, then it will be nice and soft to walk on,and little grass or bugs coming through, if however, you arrive and the pitch is wet, muudy and boggy,so thats most pitches in the uk then,all the wet, muddy bog will come throught the breathable groundsheet, turning your awning into a muddy swamp, so although they are a good idea, I do feel that most of the time its required to put a non breathable one underneath.
