I'm considering buying the suck-it-and-see towing mirrors for my Volvo V70: however, i've read the quality of glass is poor and that visibility is blurred as a result. Can anyone comment on this and vibration levels etc please?
We bought them as they were Very Easy to put on - haven't fallen off (yet!) but we're new to caravanning and bought them because we're easily led, and himself was concerned about marks on the wing mirrors from other types.... (aparently unfounded)
but no problems with them, they did what they were supposed to do, and you adjust them from inside with the electric wingmirror controller.
We bought some last year, and maybe a personal thing, but didnt like the suckers covering the car mirror. My brain automatically expected to see something there and got upset when it didnt!
We now have the "rock steady" strap ons. These in conjunction with the car mirrors give great rearward vision.
This suits us but perhaps not everyone.
Regarding the quality of the glass. The 'suckits' didnt stay on long enough for me to notice! They were replaced after a day.

I dont like them because a couple of years ago we were on a motorway service station which was fairly busy with caravanners and one poor sole was in a bit of a predicament because some burly trucker had walked by his car and caught the stick-on mirror which inevitably came straight off - but brought the car mirror glass with it!!! I was surprised to see that car mirror glass is only stuck onto the remote moveable cradle with some kind of sticky pad and wondered just how much pressure a strong wind would put on the original car mirror glass.?? I prefer the clip-on or strap-on after that.
I use the Milenco tear-drop shaped ones and I think they're brilliant. I was looking at a suck-it-and-see one for the passenger side, though, because I have trouble adjusting that one on my own but it's a lot of money £25 to spend unless it works.
Towing mirrors are a pain. However can I add a couple of points:
1. I use all 4 mirrors when towing, and position the normal mirrors down so I can see the ground at the back of the caravan. Useful when in tight spots such as farm gates or motorway services. The stick on ones would be a no for me.
2. I have been bothered about scratching the paint on the mirrors, but if you are careful it is OK.
3. I will go with Terry. The Rock Steady mirrors are by far the best mirrors I have had.
I use ones with rubber straps on the Xsara, but they won't fit on the mirrors on the Ibiza because they are a sort of teardrop shape.
I don't fancy the suck it ones as I use the car mirrors as well as the towing mirrors because they give a much better view of what's coming up the lanes behind.
Can anyone suggest any sort that might fit the Ibiza? The few times I've had to tow with it I've done it without, which obviously isn't ideal, and I'd like to use it more this year to give the Xsara a break.

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.
I love my suck it'n see mirrors, use them on a V70 too lol.
I've never had any problem with vibration or bluring. I position the sucker at the front of the normal mirror so there is a small amount of car mirror still visable.
My V70 car mirrors are £400 each to replace (main dealer prices) so I didn't want to risk anything marking the paint.
You could possibly use the Rock Steady mirrors without the straps as they clamp onto the top of the mirror housing, though I don't know how strong this would be. Better still you may be able to get away with just one strap for security. Would your friendly caravan centre let you try one in the car park?
You get 8 straps (2 different sizes) plus 2 sets of clips (medium & wide) that fit over the mirrors, with the Rock Steadies.
So the chances are they will fit most cars.
I know someone who uses them without straps and who tested them at a speed in excess of the legal limit (minus a caravan of course) with no problems.
I use the straps for peace of mind.
They are marketed by Pyramid so I would imagine they will be on their website.

we just got a set of these from our local caravan dealer they were marked up at £24.99 each in the end got them for £16.99 as they did a price match which was great as i saw them for £16.99 each on discover.com and would have wait for them to arrive via post. As soon as i bought them i stuck them on no easily, and once on they stayed there as for visability these are much better than the strap on ones we had before.

I'm sure they will, they let me try one of the ones I've got on the Xsara when I bought it. Have to give the rock steadies a go, thanks.
