hmm " expert"

ive never been called that before , why thankyou jennifernn

i have had it where some of the customers , when booking a motor mover to be fitted are not sure what plug they needed , was the fitter/dealer made aware first ?

back to the problem , if its fitted with a 13pin unit i belive its a requirement to keep it ,

i think to carry an adaptor regardless as you might have to rely a 3rd party (the AA, Recovery via a lorry, a friends banger) who isnt lucky to have a tow vehicle with a 13pin socket atached ?
it should be a requirement under a mot style to carry one so you can use it in both ways ,otherwise it would not just be unsafe but ilegal too, ut thats my feelings on that

lol!   being in the trade i would hope you are expert!

It sounded like Midge had purchased a new Bailey and asked the supplying dealer to fit a Truma SE, and either the dealer has not specified the correct connector, or Truma have supplied the wrong one.

Either way it amazes me that whoever fitted the mover did not notice that caravan and mover connector were incompatible!

Presumably Midge also has the 13 pin socket on his/her car so does not need an adapter otherwise.

We started off carrying 2 adapters with us "just in case".   One to allow our 13 pin car to tow a 2 x 7 pin van (this was supplied by Volvo along with the towbar and was needed until we got the new van home and converted it to 13 pin), and the other to allow our 13 pin van to be towed by a 2 x 7 pin car/other vehicle. Now we just carry the latter as you have suggested, and hope that we never have to tow a different van!

I believe that recovery vehicles are gradually being fitted with the 13 pin socket, but if we had to use a different vehicle in an emergency it is of course possible that this might have the 2 x 7 pin sockets.

Now Now Dave,

In pointing me in the direction of the wiring diragram are you condoning the use of non conforming modifications to the Truma system.  And invalidate the warranty !!

Never my intention - just a simple question thats all.

I am going to make a call to the dealer in the morning and get them to change the socket to the 13 pin type...... job done.

Thanks again Jennifer, one more on the tab

Inthenightgarden,

All recovery trucks etc that are capable of recovering a 27 foot caravan carry lightboard that have the tow truck registration number on.  All RAC/AA vans also carry this same type of light board that they run from their van and can hang on the back of the van/car etc.  This then covers all eventualities.

Like your thinking though

sorry midge ,but if you check there are a high amount that dont ,

also would you prefer to use your lights if its 12v system on the recovery lorry or a big greasey bit of wood with lights fixed in a hap hazard way scafold board that is hung on to grabhandles with string .

yes, I was just thinking I would not be too keen on having a lightboard hung on the back of my van either! not unless it was well padded.

I suppose they do need to display the correct numberplate, so one might not have much choice.

Inthenightgarden,

Dont know who you use as a recovery agent, but it might be time to change ! Sounds like you have had the unfortunate experience of using some real dodgy ones ! and even more important, as Jennifer says, remember the number plate !

nothing dodgy about them ,anyone who uses the rac and the aa are not guaranteed that they will come, jobs get sub'd out quite a bit , green flag has only a 40% coverage and norwch unison has 20% so they rely on third party companys quite a bit
