hi everybody.

we do quite a lot of rallies with the van i have 110 battery and 60 watt solar panel i would like to watch tv at night for a couple of hours are any tvs better than others i have a 15 inch flat screen that runs on 12 volt how much would it take out of battery.any help would be great.

we have 2 15" lcd TV's at home, one of the adapters is rated at 40W, the other at 60W. The lower one is just an analogue TV, the higher one is a digital TV with dvd player.

If yours is approx 40W then 2 hours use will use just under 7aH. In the summer it would take your solar panel less than 2 hours to replace, in the spring or autumn probably 3 hours.

Hi

Look at the back of the TV. It will either tell you the current used or the wattage. Our 17" LCD TV uses 38 watts. Divide the watts by 12 ie just over 3 amps, so with your 110 ah battery the TV will flatten the battery in 110/3 or about 37 hours. You should not run the battery right down but this figure should give you a guide.

Dont forget to make sure you have a voltage stabaliser connected between your 12v TV and the socket ( unless you TV has one built in ) apparently hi tec stuff like TV`s  dont like voltage fluctuation and could damage it ( just found this out myself but luckily mine has one built in .

we have a tv in van but it usually stays under the locker by the time kids come in and we have dinkey pooos in the awning its bed time any way may as well stay home as sit watch the box in the van!!!!

yes simon you right we don't usualy take it on rallys but i thought i will take it just in case may not even use it but it is there if needed hopefully me and the kids can be outside messing about

we have a small telly with a built in video player that we run on 12 volt or by gennie.......dont use it for the tv  but during the winter months when its dark by 4pm we like to sit back and watch a film ...good selection in charity shops now for 50p then we give them back once we have watched........bottle of wine...plate of nibbles and were off....and no adverts
