We have a seasonal pitch on hardstanding (gravel) and have been thinking about putting an old rollend carpet down in the awning. Has anyone ever done this and if so, is it better to put some sort of a tarpaulin or groundsheet under the carpet or could we just lay the carpet on the ground.
Or are we just bonkers ???

Some people on the site I'm on actually create a floor by cobbling together wood and plywood to raise it off the ground then they carpet it. It looks great. But my bit of site floods now and again.

Everyone is entitled to my opinion.
Organised people are just too lazy to look for things.

when our kids were little we always used to have some cheap foam back/rubber back contract cord carpet for them to play on. Was about £1.50 a sy yd. - a piece lasted about 3 years and folded flat in the bot floor when travelling.
On a hardstanding I think what you say would work - some sort of tarp/groundsheet then the carpet.

If you are leaving it on a seasonal pitch, even with a tarpaulin it will get musty and probably smell unpleasant.

Sounds good to me!
Thinking of getting one of those carpets for tents and putting it my awning myself, planing on putting a normal ground sheet underneath, you can get a breathable water proof one now in towsure.

I quite like the sound of having a carpet in the awning. As our family are all inclined to prefer barefoot, its seems an attractive choice, We still have our breathable groundsheet which is nice on the feet.

HI
We are on a seasonal pitch and last year we put pallets down then the groundsheet and a cheap carpet on top, it was more warm and cosy, we are doing it again this year.
Hope this helps.

You can get a rug in Ikea which might suit. Though you might need a couple of them to fit a big awning at £9 78 each it won't break the bank, http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/80094047

We were on a seasonal pitch for 2 1/2 years as we lived in the caravan permanently. Carpets are a big NO NO as they tend to get very musty and cna be difficult to clean on a regular basis. We used lino which is easy to clean and a few scatter rugs around as they could be easily cleaned in a washing machine.

We bought a carpet remnant for £25.I firstly laid damp proof membrane{don't know how much it is i got it given},duck taped it to awning skirt, then laid heavy duty cardboard{big electrical appliance packaging is ideal}then i laid my awning groundsheet, then the carpet.our pitch is gravel, and sometimes floods, but never entered the awning{sometimes got a little damp at the entrance of the awning where i could not duck tape the bottom of the awning door}.It was down for about 12 weeks and never smelt damp.I will be doing the same this year but it will be down for the full season so I will occasionally lift flooring and check for damp.
