If your not comfortable in fitting some vinyl yourself you could get a house carpet fitter to do it for you. Thats what my brother did. He bought his from a local carpet man and he fitted it for him.
We did the same in our van. Ripped the carpet up and got some Lino from Carpetright and a friend of ours fitted it for us. You may have loads of staples to remove from the floor though where the carpet was fixed down.
We find lino much more practical, especially with the lovely British weather we seem to have had over the last couple of years!!
Good luck

------------- A messy house is a happy house ... and this one is delirious!!
We have been planning to change our carpet to vinyl since last summer but not got round to it yet, but every time we use the van wish we had done now we have a dog.We don't even need to find someone to do it as i am a carpet fitter.Sometimes the units are on top and you have to cut the carpet out or as faysie says there are loads of small staples to remove.Make sure you get them all out as it make fitting the vinyl difficult.
We have been thinking of changing the carpet to soft lino. Went down to our carpet shop. he said £50 to fit the lino + he said what about putting drop in carpets in cut into 3 peices & cut to size. with all carpet edges wipped.
The soft lino wood effect was £20 meter.
carpets Wipped for about £40
All done & dusted for about £250
Doing this would make it look the part.
We put laminate effect vinyl in our old van it looked great even if I say so myself!! I laid it. Wish I had it now but my carpet is lovely so when its wrecked we will lay vinyl again!!
------------- Jan:Braids Gretna, Feb Stanwix Park Silloth & Braids Gretna,
I picked up the carpet in my old van and had cushionfloor put down and I am going to do the same in my new van with a nice rug between the beds. Its so much easier to keep clean.
I put a small square of that clingy stuff under the rugs to stop them slipping on the cushionfloor.
We did actually laminate our first 'van and it was great!!It doesn't actually add that much weight as you only use 2 packs at the most.It changed the whole feel of the van and was so easy to clean!! We've just taken the carpet out of the bathroom in our present van( boys and carpet around the loo don't mix!!) and put down a spare bit of rhino floor lining we had at home-its fab!! Any-ahem-splashes can be wiped up( and you can see them!!) and its non slip too.

We are going through this dilema too we have just had to do a repair in 3 spots for delamination of floor, we drilled through original vinyl and did repairs as someone had done this previously and cut out a square of vinyl and laid vinyl wood effect planks. We are unsure if we shoul lift old vinyl or just get new laid on top if we clean up where we have repaired, have been quoted about £100 for vinyl and fitting.
