looking for a 4-5 berth caravan been phoning some up age 2000 -2006 i have notice that there alot with damp and poor build quality?.
but i have seena abi nightstar on a 1995 phone him up and he say no damp problems and in very good condition but i was looking for a newer van are the older one better one to go for ?.
Been members here with damp ABIs too, the thing is that you can never tell unless you go and look. Take a damp meter, sharpen the prongs and request to be able to use it. If they say no run a mile, if they agree give it a thorough going over with the meter. Especially inside cupboards, under seats and in the bathroom but essentially, everywhere!
Use your nose, does it smell musty? Check around the windows and where the awning rail runs too as these are real weak spots.

I rate the Bailey Pageant Provence very highly, we loved ours & will have another soon. It's a lovely layout for a family van & has a nice full shower cubicle.
I don't know the first thing about looking over second hand vans but, I'd suggest getting a mobile caravan service engineer to look it over for you if you've any doubts, it might cost a few quid but it might save you a lot of money too.
The problem with caravans is that it all depends on how they have been used, cared for, and serviced. An older van can be in better shape than a newer one; there is no easy rule of thumb for this. Thorough checking and sniffing in all the dark corners is essential and, as Ali says, try to test with a damp meter, AND check for mustiness.
Just got back from said dealers bullyboy, (5 mins from M4 J18 ) amongst many others, they've had a 2006 provence series 5 come in this morning, it's in good condition & up at £8,895. No doubt there's a discount to be had but it looks & smells OK to me.
Sorry Bullyboy, I typed the wrong year in. it's 2006

surely not £8995 for a 1996 model?
I've just been corrected Jenniferm, the price they have in the window is £8,895., I didn't ask about it to find out what discount price would be. There's bound to be a discount with no part EX. Nice clean looking van though.
