We have just changed our caravan and purchased an Elddis Super Sirocco twin axle and need to buy a lightweight porch awning. For the last 3years we have been using a Sunncamp Portico Plus until now which we have found to be ideal. However with the door being near the front it would be too close to the drop curve of the awning rail. We are looking to buy either a Sunncamp Ultimate 260 or 390 or our local dealer has told us they have just had some of the Outdoor Revolution 250 and 400 awnings in. We would prefer the awning not to cut across one of the windows. Can anyone offer any thoughts on these two awnings, or any other suggestions? We would probably go for the longer version as we now have the Crusader twin axle.
We are looking to move to a larger awning for weekends away but dont want one that takes ages to put up. (We got our Portico Plus down to 15 mins).
We will still be buying a full awning for the longer breaks and summer holidays etc., but looking for a quick erect awning that could be used for short breaks.
Hi, with regards to the Sunncamp Ultima awnings, i was told by a dealer the other day that as they are polyester, they "sweat" and you get lots of condensation.
Is this true or was he just trying to flog me a "traditional" style awning. We are looking to buy a lightweight caravan and to keep weight down, were going to get the sunncamp style awning.
We decided on the Sunncamp Ultima 390 after looking at it at Camping International.
For our Porch awning we decided to buy Sunncamp again as we have had a Sunncamp Portico Plus Porch awning for the last three years using it for every trip except our two week summer holiday's and it has been excellent. We have used it in all weathers but cannot ever recall seeing it sweat or get condensation?
When we used the ultima the weekend before last it was warm days but very very cold nights and 1st thing in the morning there was condensation but it soon dried out no probs. You can buy the ultima type awning but in canvas or whatever its called. Apache do one.
We have the Ultima 260 and find it works fine for us.We also have the door at the front and dont have any problems. You never have to worry about packing it away if wet, we throw ours over the washing line when we get home.
Ive stopped using a full awning as the time taken winds me up, plus all I can think of is having to take it down again.
I got a superb little porch awning - a Sunncamp Vision. 3 carbon poles, easy to get up and very strong. Took some heavy winds last year. Enough room for one of those fold down bench/seat things and then some. Got it for £99 - cant go wrong. Use it all the time now - in the winter to put prams and wellies in, in the summer for shade and coolbox. Folds away into a bag and 30 mins to put up and get down again.
Gone up in price but the new model is a little bigger. Do a search for a cheaper price. Yes they get a bit of condensation but thats the same with any Poly porches/tents. Just open the vents or roll up the door and it takes an hour to dry out. At the end of the day its for stuff and maybe to eat out in.
What I will say is Ive never seen condensation bad enough to drip on stuff. I just give it a few wacks and it drops off.
What I like about Poly porches is that you can take them home and sling the whole thing in the washing machine. Keeps them fresh and clean. Like someone said, packing away wet is easy as they are small enough to hang on the washing line and even stick in the spin dryer.
They come with awning skirt and mud flaps - in or out facing - although mine are out to avoid rain getting in. Get a nice little cheap bit of groundsheet on Ebay and you are good to go.
I hate full awnings with a passion. Ill be selling mine this year.
