Hello you helpful bunch hope you're all wel and after the last week are looking forward to enjoying some more great weather (especially for Easter)
I'm towing my new van for the first time this year down from Blyth northumberland to Filey in north yorkshire. I'm happy with the towing and all that but i wondered if anyone could tell me of the roads to avoid I know there a hill in north yorks that doesn't allow vans to be towed but the name of it escape me at the moment.
Any help appreciated.
I can pay for advice with 1 or 2 pocket fluffed polo mints depending on how good the advice is.
big al' right it's sutton bank there are lots of signs,
telling caravans of routes to take,
if you are going via tyne tunnel give time for the rush hour to go, as the new tunnel works can make the area busy.
just take your time you will be fine.
p.s. it,s lovely filey
Hi P+G Foster, Been down to that area with the van many times. The best way to go for you to go is the same as we've been doing for years now as we're not far from you in sunny Bedlington ! Head down the A19, turn off onto the A174 Middlesbrough then off to the A172 to Stokesley. From Stokesely take the B1257. This takes you right into Helmsley. Ok, I know this a B road but it's fine for caravans, done it many times. If you need to stop for a "comfort" break there's a nice little parking area with toilets at Chop Gate on the B1257. You'll find it on the map. Then from Helmsley your straight along the A170 to Scarborough and then on to Filey. Hope this is of some help.
Or from the A174 you could use the A171 which takes you all the way to Scarborough, then join the A165 onto Filey. The only bank of note is just past Guisborough, but it's nothing difficult, and certainly nothing like Sutton Bank, and it's a good road all the way.
Anyway, whichever way you choose, have a good trip.
