Thanks for the confirmation and pointing out the excess flow shut off valve.

To be honest I always liked the old system with the regulator on the cylinder complete with gauge. It was so easy to do a leak check every time you pitched up.

My concern with this one is I'll have approx 0.5 metres of hose and pipework (including the elbow) at high pressure so a very slight leak on the low pressure side won't be so easy to detect.

One other thought

I remember somebody telling me some time ago that his foreign caravan came with a 30 mbar regulator on the cylinder (as per the old system)

Are these obtainable in the U.K. and would they be legal?

because it is not to the ncc requiremts or bs standard , these regulators are on imported vans,

But in my opinion they're safer.

They must also comply with European Standards which I understand is where we are all heading.

I know that any gas system can leak. I've been involved in leak detection on pipework bolted to a brick building.

The building didn't bounce along the road for 3,000 miles per annum like my caravan.

The point is that, rather like an m.o.t. any gas leak arising even one week after an approved workshop service will be the caravan owners problem.

With a cylinder mounted regulator (complete with gauge) a leak check can be carried out every time I arrive at site. This is obviously much safer and will give me more confidence

I cannot believe they are illegal.

Hi all,

I had a problem at the weekend that left me unable to cook on the hob and I'm thinking I could have the dead Truma regulator issue. If I get all the bits needed to replace the regulator, is this something that can be done DIY or do I need someone to fit it for me?

I think the Clesse regulator would be the one to go for, is this the same one as part 16543 on bes.co.uk?

I'll also order the part 12673 from there as recommended by Gary. I'm going to replace the hose with a stainless steel variety. I searched for one on bes but am I right in thinking they seem more expensive on there than available elsewhere?

Lastly, is it worth adding the 90 degree elbow to the feed side of the regulator?

hi all my van is now 3 years old & i am on my 5th. regulator. new regulators have a 90 degree elbow fitted as standard. my last reg. blocked even after it had been raised & had a 90 degree elbow fitted.will see how long this one lasts....

Hi Andy , try adding a stainless gas hose from Gaslow , that's what i did and haven't had a problem since see here http://www.1carpc.co.uk/wcdr/new-page-8.htm

WITH REGARD TO THE REGULATOR PROBLEM I HAVE HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM ON A 2YR OLD LUNAR CLUBMAN AND THE COST WAS WITH NEW PIPE £50 .I HAVE BEEN TOLD PIP PROBLEM AND ALSO POSS OIL FROM GAS BOTTLE .I HAVE FOLLOWED UP ON SUGGESTED REPLACEMENT AND WILL BE USING THAT ALONG WITH METAL PIPE.
