Hi all,

Been looking at getting a tintop for a little while but we drive a 2.4 petrol Toyota Previa (2002), which is capable of pullig a fair weight but has a very low nose weight of 65kgs.

We currently have a Pennine Pathfinder which it tows with no problems at all, but the low nose weight worries me when looking for a van. However looking around, the ABI older vans appear to be quite light.

Can anyone recommend the ABI's or any other lightweight van ?, ideally a 4/5 birth ?

many thanks,

Rich.

ABI vans are no longer made so spares could be a problem. Your noseweight is no different from many cars. Ours is only 75 kg so I wouldn't worry about it too much. It all depend on how much you want to spend. Try putting your car into www.whattowcar.com and see what comes up.

The recommended noseweight is 7% of the total weight of the caravan, so a max noseweight of 65 Kgs on the towcar limits you to up to 928 Kgs for the caravan. It is possible to get a heavier one but you must still keep the noseweight to 65 Kgs.

Look at early 90s models - we had a CI Sprite Major 5 berth that was very light, about 950 Kgs I think.

Thanks for the comments.

I've checked Whattowcar, but they dont make any allowance for nose weight, so according to the site we can tow pretty much anything! But obviously the noseweight issues negate this.

I'm guessing that i will have to look at an older van, cost is not really an issue, so any suggestions for a suitable 4/5 berth caravan would be appreciated,

Thank you.

We have an ABI award (morningstar) and it's one of the heavier ones, and yes getting parts can be a pain, but most parts from others work..

I love it!

The Bailey Discover (no longer made) and Bailey Rangers are all lightweight for their size. Ours is a 6 berth and one of the lightest there is.
