Joined the caravan and camping club last year, only used C&CC sites twice and on one of those occasions was told that my membership wasn't valid for that particular weekend - so we didn't really get value for money.

Hoping to use it more this year.

Kitten, I think there must have been some misunderstanding. Your membership would be valid for the whole year for which you joined - unless, of course it had expired by the time you speak of? What I suspect may have happened is that if you used a site in high season, some of the members deals e.g. age concession, may not have been available.

We find our C&CC membership worthwhile for lots of other reasons (although the saving for age concession on sites are very valuable), including discounted insurance and good deals on overseas travel.

But for the main question, I would suggest logging on to both Club's websites and checking who has sites in the areas you want to visit - coverage can be a bit patchy, so it isn't an easy one to answer. The Caravan Club has more sites overall, but if they don't cover your favourite areas, that is not necessarily an advantage, and their more popular ones are often fully booked many months ahead.

If you have children and want to benefit from 'family' deals, then I believe The Camping and Caravan Club to be the best value for money. I think you need to stay about 5 nights or more in a year to benefit and save more than your yearly joining fee. I'm with them and they have been fantastic.

The Cc has more sites in Scotland than the C&CC and if you want to caravan all year the Cc is the one to go for as many of their Scottish sites stay open all year.
The other option is to be a member of both for a year and see which you prefer. We are members of both - gives us a wider choice of sites.

Chrissie7 - Booked 3 nights direct with the camp site, arrived on the site and discovered the C&CC Sign, I mentioned I was a member and was told memberships weren't valid for that weekend (Cowal Games?).

I was led to believe as a member you got some sort of discount & your card stamped to go towards 'free nights' camping.

I take it if your a pensioner you get some sort of age concession, going to have to wait a few more years until me and the kids are pensioners. The youngest has just started school - lol

Contrary to the clubs reputations, I have found the caravan club members to be very friendly. We have made several good friends in the Caravan Club.

Good suggestion earlier to join both clubs. For a yearly fee of around £35 each it represents good value, We have been in the C&C.Club for around 10 years and added the Caravan Club around 3 years ago...enjoy them both equally well maybe because added together there are loads of great sites to choose from...providing you get in early with the bookings......super reading in the monthly magazines too.

Maybe it was just an associated C&CC site and not a proper site. There are a few o these was it in the proper site directory or on their website. They do advertise different sites in their book that arent actually their sites. You do get a book and get it stamped on their proper sites. Hope this ist too confusing.
