Our PDI was very thorough - they found that the battery-box wouldn't lock properly, so changed the lock, adjusted a cupboard door to make it line up properly (they told us about those things), along with checking all electrics, gas, plumbing, running gear, etc.  They even took the plastic off the cushions and the floor so we wouldn't have to dispose of it all.  Our dealer could not be faulted on their pdi or handover (handover took best part of 2 hours, and they knew we weren't absolute novices as we had bought an 'all bells and whistles' folding camper off them the year before, so we knew how a lot of the equipment in the caravan worked.  They still took us through every detail - fab service).

Get your mate to take it back and watch them while they pdi it all over again.  They should cetainly have spotted the drawer and gas-bottle locker faults (electric faults can crop up at anytime - could have all been fine on pdi).

Pump is 12v, lights are 12v and 230v, fridge should only go on 230v, Tv will depend on where you plugged it in, but usually 230v.

Were you hooked up, have you got a fully charged battery?

if its a swift group van, there was a batch of faulty chargers.

did you check battery fuse?   we have the thetford digital, ours works without charger, just from battery.

there is an in-line 20amp fuse, it may blow when the charger fails.

these chargers apparently fail after only a few hours use

the manufacturers are coming out to vans to replace them.

One from the Little Black book of playing them at their own game, is to buy it on Finance, even if you only part finance it and pay the rest in cash.

Reason being. If problems occur and you have done everything possible and have communicated with them in writing and you are still just drawing a blank. Ring the Finance Provider and tell them that you are not making any more payments until the issues are sorted. Hence the reason to converse with the dealer in writing and make notes of ALL telephone conversations that you have with them; time, date, who you spoke to and what was said by you and by them.

I've had customers that have written to Company's House in Wales and paid the small fee to get details of the Director's and have then written to them at their home addresses.

Our van was spotless when we collected it and we were given a thorough handover.

Had problems with SWMBOs car ( bought 1 year old ) pdi not done properly and various other problems. My wife (who can be very assertive!) wrote to the sales manager but copied the letter to the MD.

Result car revaletted, paintwork protection redone, lots of extras supplied and a free service!  We also had a loan car for the week with a nearly full tank!

Very grovelling apologies from the salesman concerned who apparantly got his a**e kicked!

Would not buy from them again.

Ah, glad we now have any easy method of identification - must tell hubby I'm a SWMBO

Like he'd take any notice - mind you, having smashed 2 windows on the caravan, which can't be replaced in the same colour as the rest of the van (fortunately they're on the same side, & like the guy who sold them said, you can only look at 1 side of the caravan at a time), he still has major grovelling to do - why oh why did he go up a road which clearly stated NO HGV's - to my mind that means no caravans either!! In fairness, there was a contraflow with lights, & when he went to go through (behind other vehicles), there was still traffic coming through from the other direction & the vehicles he was following turned up the dodgy road anyways - personally I'd have waited, or gone on regardless - it was the other idiots fault if there was an accident for going through on an amber - by the way - I was asleep at the time!!  LOL

Bringing up baby to be a seasoned caravanner - we bought one to holiday cheaply - working well so far - & caravanners are lovely - helped us on our virgin voyage & our awning!!!
