Hi All, We  are a family of husband an wife with two boys age 10 and 6. We have just bought our first caravan after tenting for a few years and need some advice on buying an awning. How do we no what size we need? we have looked around and some are measured from the top of your caravan to the floor, some in the length of your van, some in in cm some in feet, porch or full. We thought we new what we were looking for when we started but now we are just confused. We would like one that you can hang a bedroom i so our sons friends can come with us sometimes.

Our caravan is an ABI Marauder 450ctl- oldish but looks nice and in good condition but dosn't have an awning with it. It measures 225cm from top to floor and the legnth is 450cm

Would be gratefull for any advice

Thank You

measure from the floor all the way around the awning rail until you reach the floor on the oppostite side of the van , that will give you the correct measurement

Hi, follow the advice given above use a length of string to do this and make sure the string is the non stretch type of string, if cash is a consideration ie money tight check out litchfield caravan awnings on ebay various sizes all at £99.99p these are

budget awnings but perfectly servicable. hope this helps.

I appreciate that this may seem a bit fussy but just in case of confusion for Floor please read ground. All awning manufacturers include the length you get this way. The only awnings   the height of the is what matters van are porch awnings which have a section of that threads into the rail and two sides that simply hang down.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

we bought our awning from A1 awnings (based in Cowbridge, Wales, but on ebay & have a website).  We got 1 which was a return to the manufacturer as apparently it had 'muddy' marks on it - couldn't find them - & got it for £180 delivered - should have been nearer the £400 mark.  The risk you take with these though is that  they take the manufacturers word for the fault, & don't check them out fully (that's what the guy told me anyway!!)

If your caravan came with all the documentation, then it should be easy enough to find out the awning size - fortunately, despite its age, all the documents were there from when it was 1st sold!!

Bringing up baby to be a seasoned caravanner - we bought one to holiday cheaply - working well so far - & caravanners are lovely - helped us on our virgin voyage & our awning!!!

If you want to put an annexe on then you need a full awning, measured as shown from ground one side right round the rail to the other side.

Porch awnings are measured as the height of the awning rail to the ground, but I suspect you van won't be tall enough for one of those.

Hi again, Thanks for all the advice. We don't actually pick it up until Friday after it's had a service and a clean, so will look on the paper work then and do the measuring as people have said above.

We are really jealous of eveyone who is going away this easter. We can not go as my eldest son is in a show for the local Mayor and has got extra rehearsals this week and next week ready for the show on the 19th.Never mind, can't be helped. we are hoping to go somewhere local for a weekend in May.

**HAPPY HOLIDAYS TO EVERYONE WHO IS GOING AWAY**

Many Thanks again for the awning advice
