we have just been away for the 2nd time since we bought our avondale dart 525-4 and lo and behold the fridge would'nt get cold, we made sure we were level ,both ways, we checked the trips and the fuses.... nothing, we tried running it on gas still nothing. we had plenty of heat coming out of the vent both on gas and on leccy still would'nt go cold so into the dealers it goes on tues. but still had a good week a good week at the lime tree campsite in Buxton. cheers Bill

hiya wizard, as soon as i find out i'll post it on here . the other problem we had was the front window seal lets water in when there is a real downpour, the water seems to find its way past the seal and sits in between the seal and the window, weve only had the window open twice and never had a cable or anything trapped so thats another mystery to be solved. were not too worried as the dealer is pretty good and has already said it will be treated as urgent, even though the repeirs/after sales is booked up for the next month they will deal with it as soon as they get the keys from us after the easter break. I'll let you know what they find, apart from those 2 things we're really happy with the van dispite people going on about avondale no longer existing !!!! so what, in tyhis months Practical Caravan there is an address and phone number for the Co that bought all of Avondales supply of spare parts( body panels, fittings etc) so why worry, we got a good van and a lot cheaper than it should have been. happy times. Bill

this is the second time i've heard of this... in a brand new caravan a friend purchased from explorer his fridge would not work ..when taken in to a dealer they said nothing was wrong ..strange ..albeit the fridge was a digital reading console he knew how to work it as he had purchased the identical caravan he had before ..he only changed it because damp was found on the first service  ..the caravan ( eldiss cyclone) was just 12 months old..this sends out alarm bells for me as i'm to pick up my new buccaneer caravel next month ...what is the build quality of explorer group caravans these days ?

we called into the dealers yesterday with the keys and to tell them exactly what we did to try and get the fridge working and also to let them know about the water getting past the seal.

 Neal in aftersales told us not to worry that even if the service dept was busy he would check it all out with another  manager so we could get away at the end of the month but from what we told him he said it would proberbly be having a new fridge as it sounded like a faulty something or other that could'nt be changed

it's covered under the dealers warrenty as well so hopefully job sorted.   Bill

Hi all,

had a call from the dealers last night they had tested the fridge and found the same as us......it would'nt work, just a load of hot air coming out of the vent and nothing happening inside.

I told them we were booked to go away on the next holiday and would it be ready for then?, The lady said they had sent a warrenty request off to Thetford and it was now up to them but seeing as they are only a couple of miles from us I'll be phoning them(Thetford) and chasing them up. otherwise we'll be going away with no fridge aghhhhh cant have warm beer..........

They have sorted the window problem out , they adjusted the window catches and checked for damp all ok  so thats a weight off my mind.

I'll let you know what Thetford say.

Hi all, we finally heard from the dealers last week, They said they had tested the fridge again and it definatly was'nt working!!!!!!!.What happens next said I???,we send a warranty claim off and wait to hear from them , any Idea how long that will be only we want to go away bank holiday w/end, oh It should'nt be that long.

 well I called in the office last saturday while taking some stuff to the van and lo and behold the woman in the office said oh! It could take weeks , but we're due to go away on the weds after bank holiday, we need a fridge, well we'll try our best.

Got a phone call from Neil in service dept who promised to chase it up Monday. Had another call on tues saying Thetford had promised to get it to the deaslers by friday.when can you fit it if your closed Mon? tues no prob.

Rang Friday to check if it had arrived and guess what it had'nt.. tried ringing Thetford (only 6m from us) at 2-30pm and they had closed for the day arghhhhhh.

Got a call from the service dept at 3-30pm to say it had arrived and the would make sure it was ready for us to go away on wed morning  

So we're sorted at last, still dont know what was wrong with it but not really bothered as long as it does'nt happen again so credit to south yorkshire caravans and motorhomes after sales team.
