Hi folks.....had my awning blown over the roof while off-site last week in high winds and had the 2 front roof poles damaged (Isabella1025mm awning). Does anyone know where I can purchase 26mm and 23mm lenghts of Carbon X pole which can be cut to size to replace the damaged ones as I don't need the fittings and complete poles........especially at the exorbitant prices that the dealers are looking to charge for direct replacements.

Personally, I would contact Isabella:

Isabella International Camping Limited,
Drakes Drive, Long Crendon Ind. Est.,
Buckinghamshire HP18 9BA, UK
Tel. +44 (01844) 20 20 99

Or, try Waudby's, I've always found them to be really helpful :

But there are other places - try e-bay:

This guy has 2 roof poles for sale:

Hi Susa...thanks for you're trouble in replying to my post. Problem is I need Carbon X poles to match up and all the ones you have listed are Steel apart from the roof bar which is 30mm (I need front roof 26/23mm). I have been checking  on Ebay and I bought the awning from Waudbys originally. What I am trying to source is the poles themselves....without the fittings.....as this must double the cost of the replacement and as this is the 3rd time I have poles break on me, it would be better if they could be had in lengths that you cut to requirements....especially as the fittings are just a push fit and can be re-used.

Have you called Waudby's? You won't be the first or last to damage poles, of that I am sure!! Maybe they have taken an awining in that is damaged and the poles are OK?

Failing which, as this is the third time, I would be inclined to contact Isabella direct. They are very good, and when we had a problem with a winter porch awning, they came and collected, repaired and returned without cost!

Hi Susa....what I'm trying to get over is the cost of replacements, having happened now 3 tmes, and so can happen again, therefore it would make sense to buy lengths of pole and cut to size when required as it is now becoming a costly excersise. The awning is quite large as I said (1025cm) and has 5 roof poles and 5 uprights and although I had it anchored with storm guys and storm strap, if one pole snaps the lot goes and although the CarbonX poles are light, they are not that particulary strong. I have already E-mailed Isabella but don't expect a reply till after the Easter holiday and I don't expect Waudbys will be any different from my local dealers i.e: supply fully fitted replacement poles......at ridiculous prices.

I understand perfectly what you are trying to get across, BUT what I am saying is that as this has happened 3 times, its not because you are doing something wrong, then Isabella should come across with free I wasn't aware that we - even in Bonnie Scotland - had enjoyed gale force winds last weekend that would justify breaking CarbonX poles. Indeed, when we changed from a Penta to an Opus (both Isabella) the rep at the Birmingham show went to considerable pains to point out that Carbon X were extremely strong, as much so as steel, but without the weight.

http://www.isabella.net/uk/accessories/frames/index.html

Maybe its time to suggest to them that your experience doesn't indicate that this is so!

I don't think you stand any chance of buying CarbonX poles from anywhere other than Isabella or dealers, given they are made in Denmark.

What's the possibility of using steel instead - which awning is it BTW??

Hej Susa......when we returned to the site the warden came over and explained what had happened and told us that he and a goup of the vanners had to rescue no fewer than eight awnings last Saturday and the winds were virtually continuous all last week leaving the whole site almost awning free all week. Normally I use my porch awning during the winter months but it seemed a good time to get the full one up first time this season. Interestingly enough, my two brothers married Danish girls and live in Denmark (for about 35 years)....but in Hornbaek on Zeeland in the east and the Isabella factory is on Jutland, but one has a holiday home near Arhus on Jutland and may be persuaded to try them on the way by sometime. I used to use the Newcastle/Esbjerg ferry to Denmark but they discontinued that a number of years back and you have to go all the way down to Harwich now, so I either go via Gothenburg in Sweden and Helsingborg/Helsingor ferry, or in the backdoor via Puttgarden in Germany.

As it is at the moment, utilising the verandah bar and switching fittings around, I have a usable full set again.......until the next time.

There is a DFDS Newcastle to Ijmuiden (Holland) ferry,. Not sure what length it carries, but it does take caravans. Its not too bad then up through Holland, and to Kiel  the Langeland ferry is the one we used to take.
