Having just changed over our caravan to one with a fixed bed we are wondering what is the best thing to sleep under?
we used to use single sleeping bags as we never made up the double bed. We have just been oyut and bought a double duvet but it seems to be a little cumberson. Just seen a pitch 0n a TV show for a product called duvalay which looks great but at £130 per single looks a little expensive lol.
So what do you find the best??
Edited to change the title from Island bed to fixed bed.
we have a fixed double (not rich enough for an island bed lol ) and we sleep under a 3.5 tog duvet more than warm enough cost under atenner from argos. cheers Bill

We have a fixed double, the side one with the cut off corner.
We use a king size duvet from Ikea, synthetic one with 2 quilts ( a thick and a thin ) which can be velcroed together to give 3 different options. wide enough to tuck down the wall side of the matress when it's chilly.
For the sheet we use a stretchy fitted one from Lidl, takes care of the odd shape!
Sorry peeps, its a fixed bed lol, same as what Jen has described. Just finding the duvet takes up an awful lot of room but it is a thick one. Might have a look for a thinner on, may sit better.
There is a place you can buy the shaped duvets and bedding, but it is expensive. Mrs Bill could maybe conduct some surgery on the one you have?
I thought of doing that, but we found that it was ok in use, I just tuck it under my feet!
Ours is so big it doesn't sit too well when the bed is made up, so instead I fold it to quarter size and lay it neatly at the bottom end. This allows the matress to air well during the day too.
have a look here bill ..but the're expensive ..we're getting our buccaneer caravel next month and have looked at these and other options we will stick to light stuff for bedding and new sheets ect ---------->http://www.jonic-uk.co.uk/shop/2/53/index.htm
We use two single sleeping bags zipped together to make a double - they fit the fixed bed perfectly. We had these from our tent camping days and couldn't see the point of buying a new duvet just for the caravan. In the winter we pop a quilted blanket over the top and we are lovely and snuggly.
Have had 2 side fixed beds, and now a rear double island bed. We've used the same bedding setup on all three, which is the same as we have at home; a base fitted sheet covering the mattress, sometimes a double top sheet, and then a double duvet, and that does for all times of the year.
We have a mattress topper with a fitted sheet on the bottom. Then we use 2 single duvets (one each) on the double bed - means we can both have the duvet how we want it without disturbing each other - and I can slide out the bottom of the bed and get back in quite easily if I need to get up in the night ('cos I sleep next to the outer wall).
We bought a fitted mattress protector for our shaped fixed bed, and use the two extra large single sleeping bags we had for the folding camper, zipped together to create one very large double sleeping bag (OH is 6'4", I'm 5'10" tall). We then have two fleece sleeping bags that can be unzipped as blankets just in case, and for those REALLY cold nights, we have 6 tog duvet we keep in it's bag under the bed. It squashes up really small so doesn't take up too much space.
I think like outdoor clothes, layering is the key here - it means you can use the bedding for other stuff too, eg. snuggle up in the blankets when you're sitting in the awning on a cool night.
