Wow high price!  It says fixed double bed on the write up too......

Good condition though, great van if it is bought at the right price.

In reply to Karim's post, Carlight were still building new vans several years ago as well as totally refurbishing any older models right back from when they first made them. They are considered to be amongst the best of all caravans and it is a shame that they have stopped building new models but a refurbished one is as good as a new one as all parts are scrutinised and any problem at all is replaced, right down to the chain on the sink plugs!

Their website section on the History of Carlights is amazing to read through, although should contain a warning that you may not want to stop reading till you get to the end, several hours later!

If I ever had the money or the ability healthwise I would like to do the same thing with Thomson caravans, unfortunately as yet I have not become bionic nor have I won the lottery!

Robin having looked at the pictures I wopuld say that this was overhauled which is why it is so high in price, wouldn't mind one myself! The thing to remember with these vans is that they are made from real timber not the modern stuff that isused these days. They are top end luxury vans in my opinion!

Hi, does anyone know of any other makes of caravans that had two doors, one on each side.  When I was eighteen in 1990 my partner and I purchased a two door four berth caravan from my mother's employer, it was used to tide us over to live in whilst we were doing up our house. 

The details i remember of this caravan was it had dark brown dralon seats/cushions/curtains, end kitchen and bathroom, kitchen had full oven and two cupboards, the built in fridge was located on the side of the caravan in a dresser unit, water in the kitchen was cold only either electric pump or foot pump, bathroom had a green sink and shower tray but only a porta potti.  The front area was two long bench seats that made into a double, the side dinette made into another double bed by pulling out the slats sideways towards dresser unit with a curtain to pull around.  Curtains at the front on the sloping windows had to be poppered shut every night.  I remember the wooden cupboards being real wood.  The main doors to the caravan were located at the kitchen end and also at the main seating area.

We only took the caravan on one holiday as we did not have a tow car ourselves.  We then sold the caravan when the house was finished and never saw it again.  At the time i did not appreciate what we had, if we had realised that it was such a unique caravan than we may not have sold it, but we did need the money we sold it for.

It would be good if someone could identify the caravan we once owned to solve my curiosity, I also do not seem to have any photos of it. I am not sure if it was a Carlight or other brand. We now own a fairly modern caravan but it is a dream of mine to purchase an older one and do a retro refit.

Hi Janette, not the same layout but Thomson did a two door caravan in the 70's an example of which can be seen here.

There where several manufacturers who did two door models over the years, these were mainly used in the UK and abroad offering the opportunity to have the door on the correct side on any campsite.

Have a look through my caravan photos and see if I can find others. I will also check through the ones not yet on the website.
