Our Bailey will need its annual service in June (2 years old) and the first owners bought it from Michael Jordan.  They had it serviced there at 1 year old and we bought it from them a month or so later as they were moving abroad.

My question is do I have to take it back to MJ for it's service or can I use a mobile engineer?

My husband is in Afghanistan so although I can tow, I don't really want to and having it serviced at home seems, easier and cheaper!

You can use anyone registered with Bailey I think, otherwise there may be problems.

Hi

Baileys web site has a list of all approved workshops where you can have it serviced and some are mobile.

Some of them can carry out warranty work too.

Make sure the first service and subsequent services are within 6 weeks of the anniversary date of your caravan, keep the receipts too otherwise your warranty will be void.

Also ensure that the 3rd (for most bits)and 6th services (for damp) are before the anniversary date or the warranty won't be honoured

ANY workshop that is Approved by the NCC can service ANY caravan.

NCC Approved Workshop List

Some of the Caravan Manufacturers will tell you otherwise, but this is purely an attempt to back up their dealership network.

Ring the NCC and they will clear it up

But surely not all are authorised tocarry out warranty work - so if work needs doing you face a second trip to another workshop?

Unless it is a very minor repair which does not need spare parts, they always reschedule the work for a later date, so its another trip anyway.

Thanks everyone for your replies.  I wasn't looking forward to towing it to MJ as it is a pain to get to from here.

Nickj - I might give Bailey a call direct and get the same answer as you, just for peace of mind.  Think we have the same Ranger!

Dave101 - thanks for that info.

I would totally agree, ring Bailey and ask them,

In general all allow any NCC approved workshop, including mobile, to do the work, except Swift who insist on their dealerships only.

Swift was considering changing this so may have changed but I've not heard to the contrary

Blast this, our van is a Swift and our local dealer is charging about £ 200 for a service on a single axle. Hubby isnt impressed with the price.

Here is the reply i have just got when i asked a similar question.

Thank you for your email regarding the Bailey GT60 Ranger 540/6

Unfortunately we do not supply direct to the customer as we have a large network of Bailey Approved retailers across the country.

The next availability for this model is Week 25, week commencing 15th June.

However, local retailers may have stock available prior to this date.

We are not able to comment on the financial viability of any company, however in the current economic climate we would recommend that advance payments of any kind, be they either a deposit or a part exchange caravan, are made as secure as possible.

You will need to refer to the terms and conditions of your original sales invoice to determine your recourse in the event of your retailer becoming insolvent.

We are happy for you to have servicing work carried out at any of these centres or any NCC approved workshop, however, any warranty work required will need to be carried out by a Bailey Agent.

Bailey Approved retailers, however, are under no obligation by Bailey to carry out work of another centre if they do not wish to as they are Independent companies and Bailey has no control over their business ethics.

A comprehensive list of retailers can be found on our website www.bailey-caravans.co.uk  or in your Service Handbook.

NCC Approved Workshops will be listed in the Telephone directory.

I trust this is of assistance

Kind Regards

Kelly Watts

So that would be 3 visits then as workshop one cannot authorise warranty work so workshop 2 looks at it and applies to Bailey for approval then visit 3 is gets the work done.

So the best option will be to have it serviced at home by a mobile engineer, then if any warranty work arises worry about getting it to Michael Jordan?

Hopefully there aren't any issues so it should be straightforward!

If a dealer on the 'bailey-caravans' website has a 'Transiant Warranty' flag next to their entry, then they will happily carry out warranty work even if they did not supply the van.

PS as you are not the first owners of the van have you filled in all the Bailey warranty transfer forms.
