Just bought one from maplins, set it up as per instructions .

all I get is no signal with a teardrop icon, when i check info i get 80% signal intensity and 14% picture quality.

i have tried using a sat finder but still no joy, i suspect that the area i am in is not a very good reception area.

is there anything i can do to get a picture? i.e some sort of signal booster

regards

John

Hi John,

You need a clear view to the SSE. If there are trees, shrubs, bushes, long grass, or a trail of ants they will stop the signal. (It really does need an unobstructred view)

I use a cheap Lidl system and it works well, even in Brittany...hopefully further south as well.

Keep trying, you will get there in the end!

Mr UM

Thanks: we have Freesat™ at home and want it in the van without paying the premium of a pucker licensed decoder. So despite what Maplin are saying the unit you have appears to have it and working at 12VDC as well. Cheers

I am going to buy a satellite receiver for use in my caravan. Preferably one that does not require a card. One that is 240 or 12 volts would be ideal, but just 240 will do. Looking at around £50 or less.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Hi Jeepster we have the goodmans "Freesat" box it is 240 volt bought from currys cost £49.99p set up using a free Sky dish mounted on a tripod can be fiddly but once you get the hang of pointing it south east approx 146 degrees using small gradual movements to let the reciever lock on it proves to be a reasonable reciever for the price ,it is smaller than a sky box and runs cooler ,the remote is easy to use and the box has a good easy to follow set up program and menu.

Hope this helps there don't seem to be that many cheap freesat boxes around .

Dave

Hi Jeepster
What we have is one of these 12v Freesat £39.99p
Easy to set up as it has it's own sat finder built in and works well for setting up.
Comes with mains adaptor so you're not limited to 12v.
All I can say to people who have problems setting dish up, is slow/small movements work better.
Maplins also have mains only one for £10 less
Enjoy macaw
Ditto us, Comag make them for lidl/aldi its the same receiver as you get in the suitcase kits works as advertised good piece of kit and niceand small.[:o)]
