I had that in our new (to us) caravan last year and asked the same question.  I was told to buy the blue and pink bottles of stuff to put in it and that worked almost immediately.  I bought both but do wonder if just the blue would have worked on its own.  Buy the small bottles as it lasts a long time and i'm carrying around 2 large bottles of the stuff lol.  Another tip, don't put too much blue in otherwise every time you open the loo door you get a very strong smell of it hit you in the face lol

To prevent it from happening again dont use thetford pink stuff. Use Elsan instead. We had exactly the same and apparently its a known issue with the Thetford stuff so I was told.

Since using the Elsan pink we have had no further black sludge/algae.

You can buy special stuff to clean the black stuff out. Might seem a bit pricey but it works really well so long as you follow the instructions.

if milton does not work try   www.fenwicks.info i clean our fridge and toilet with it too.

We use Fenwicks Top & Tail, stops the black bits, and you don't have to muck about with 2 fluids.
