Her's the government pages for people whose licence was issued in another country. I followed the link that a Canadian national would and got:Quote: Driving licences issued in any other country- you can drive any small vehicle eg cars and or motorcycles, shown on your driving licence, for a period of 12 months from the date that you last entered the country, as long as it remains full and valid
- you can only drive larger vehicles eg lorries and buses, shown on your licence, that have been registered outside of GB which you have driven into the country
So, for the three or four months each year you want to use the rig, if the rig meets category B (see below) then you have no problem. However, if the rig does not meet category B I suspect you would need to ask DVLA since it's wouldn't be driveable on a "standard" car licence. Unfortunately, DVLA are unreliable IME and unlikely to give a straight answer.
However, if you hired your towcar from another EU country you could legally drive it UK in combination with any trailer that your Canadian licence permits provided it doesn't fall foul of the Construction and Use regulations of the country in which you hired the towcar.
HTH,
Geoff

Category B covers cars and light goods vehicles with a MAM (GVW) not exceeding 3,500 kg solo or in combination with a trailer the MAM of which does not exceed 750 kg. Also covered are other combinations of a vehicle in category B with a trailer the MAM of which does not exceed the unladen mass of the towing vehicle and where the MAM of the combination does not exceed 3,500 kg.
