Hi,

I went past what was Lowdhams Caravans at Newbury this afternoon and they have gone! The caravan Company is trading from the site.

This now seeems to leave Hymer unrepresented in the south of the country, if we had bought from Lowdhams I would not fancy the treck to Nottingham to get a warrany job carried out.

Sugar: our Hymer is booked in for it's first year service first week in July and we have not been contacted about any changes of venue.
However they have disappeared off the Lowdham web site so it looks like they are no longer a Lowdham outlet.

Thanks for the info; call to Nottingham tomorrow if we get back in time.

From what I am advised here is the position. Clearly affected individuals would be wise to check my understanding is correct:

The now ex Lowdham Leisureworld's outlet, A4 Bath Road Padworth, Reading that was previously Colins Caravans appears to have been sold to Webbs Motorhomes & Caravans [based in Warminster]. It will continue to trade from the A4 site but as separate sales and servicing units.

In respect to the Hymer caravans sold by the outlet whilst it was a Lowdhams company:
As I understand it this Webbs outlet have authority to service and undertake damp checks within the terms of and without prejudice to the Hymer guarantee.
Any arising warranty work however needs Webbs to obtain specific authority from Lowdhams.
Hymer unique parts if required would also need sourcing via Lowdhams either from their Nottingham store or from Germany.

This outlet no long sell new Hymers.

Thanks for that JT,

Do you think it was the weak pound that scuppered them?

I did and ended up after being transferred speaking to the service part; what I stated was what I was told by them that they are Webbs.
Also as I said they stated that they are two operating units, sales and servicing. This rather conflicts with the Caravan Companies web site that claims "service and repair workshops" unless their are two independent companies operating from the old site. The plot deepens which is worrying for Hymer owners.

Hi,

To clarify the situation Webbs Motorcaravans has bought part of the ex Lowdhams Reading site. This part of the site included the workshop, parts and shop facilities. They are authorised to carry out warranty repairs on Hymer caravans via our Nottingham branch who will administer claims and obtain the parts required etc. Servicing will also continue as normal and Webbs are keen to look after existing customers.

The other half of the site is a retail sales centre operated by the Caravan Company. The Caravan Company will utilise Webbs to prepare, service and repair caravans sold by them.

Lowdhams are committed to Hymer and will continue to import Hymers into this country via our Nottingham and Huddersfield branches.

We have produced a letter which will go to all existing Lowdham Reading customers and these should arrive via the post over the next few days.

If any Lowdham Reading customer needs help on specific issues that cannot be handled by the new company at Reading please contact our Nottingham branch on 0115 9663838.

Ian Brown, Lowdham Leisureworld Nottingham

Thank you very much for joining this forum and clarifying this issue.
On behalf of members who are existing and those that might be future owners of Hymer caravans, welcome.
It is comforting to know our voice here is being read by suppliers and thus our concerns better understood.

We at least are extremely pleased that in what must be very difficult times to be selling premium Euro priced products that Lowdhams remain committed to supplying and supporting the exceptional Hymer caravans.

John

Well done Ian Brown, we were just beginning to think about our next caravan (post children phase) and were going to have a look at Hymer's at Lowdenham Huddersfield. When i read this post i thought 'oh no, maybe not a good idea'. So i was really pleased to read the above statement from Mr Brown. Luckily we live quite close to Huddersfield and store near Huddersfield so this would be very convenient. I'm quite excited to have a look at Hymer's they do look a very good caravan.

Thanks for that Mr Brown

(And I didn't think I would be saying that this week),

You have added clarity to the situation and we will still consider a new Hymer next time.
