I say that the jockey whell should stay down because the legs aren't strong enough on their own to take the weight of the van

My friend levels his van using the jockey wheel, puts the legs down & then takes the jockey wheel up.

Who's right?????????

The chassis is designed to be supported bvy the jockey wheel. you shouldnt put it up. this info came from a towing course.

I keep seeing vans on site with the jockey wheels clamped up!  Odd, I always thought it should be down to take some of the weight as the steadies are just that, steadies.

Surely the jockey wheel should always be down when the caravan is parked up? that's what we always do anyway.

I can not see the point of even considering lifting the jockey wheel, it's just something extra to do and nobody could ever find an advantage in doing it.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
