I agree, I would never pay such an amount upfront. I would be very suspicious of any seller expecting me to make such a payment. My advice is, if you are intending to bid on an item like a caravan, take the time to view it BEFORE you start bidding. Any genuine seller will welcome your visit. Also, if you do win the bidding, only send a small deposit and pay the balance cash on delivery.

Sounds like you had a decent seller there, but there are some rogues on ebay.

We sold a Volvo S80 via Ebay - the buyer paid by paypal, BUT, being nice & honest, we collected him from the train station (not knowing he'd paid), & waited until he'd inspected the car & was happy to take it before I accepted the transfer of funds & waited until the transfer was complete before handing over the keys - that's where Paypal really works - no waiting for cheques to clear, thus no refunding hassle if the sale doesn't complete.  We even offered him use of our internet connection to make the payment if happy with the car - guess it all comes down to honesty.  Having said all that, as yet, never had a problem with ebay & always use paypal - my opinion is if they won't take paypal, I won't buy as it offers some degree of protection & is free for buyers to use.

Bringing up baby to be a seasoned caravanner - we bought one to holiday cheaply - working well so far - & caravanners are lovely - helped us on our virgin voyage & our awning!!!

Okay then. What about when they get home and do a chargeback saying they haven't received the goods or say it was significantly not as described. You lose your car and money. Paypal is a mugs game!
