We are going away for our 1st outing in our new to us van.We are doing a CL.Gazbag been to maplins and bought a device that turns a lappy into a tv.He has also bought a car charger for it, so when out and about we can charge it.Does anybody else do this. Are they any good.
If it's a dongle type of thing then we got one about a year ago. Very impressed with it. Can get a picture in most places that we visit, even in the Yorkshire Dales. Would suggest that you take one of those TV top aerials as well, sometimes the stick antenna supplied doesn't give as good a picture.

Hi, yes we use the laptop with a usb freeview dongle, the supplied aerial is pants but we now use a proper tv aerial and it works great, some areas we get a bad signal but that would be the same with any set up, plus with most usb dongles you also get software to record programs straight to the hardrive so you can watch later.

Used a dongle for a while - good points are you can record tv to the hard drive. Bad points are epg was pants and needed a big aerial to guarantee a picture. We now use freesat decoder + a 60 cm satalite dish from maxview - seems to work wherever we go but no more recording tv Guess we now need a dvd recorder or as hd recorder for tv - then the sky will be the limit lol
I've a usb freeview dongle too. It was a Mother's Day pressy earlier this year so only used it on site once. We were staying in Dartmouth, in an apparently really bad reception area, but managed to get 30 odd channels, some of these radio. I was using the caravans Status (UFO shaped) and booster.
It got Cbeebies so my little one was content lol, no one else really got a look in after that. But if she's happy (and quiet) so are we.
we had a dongle & didnt get on with it but didnt try a proper ariel only the magnetic one supplied. But we have never had much sucess with any type of tv or ariel we normally resort to watching dvds! or find a site with tv sockets on the hook up bollard! We now have a dish in a briefcase thingy so will try again this year to get a picture, have bought a few more games tho just incase lol!

may see you there then as that sites on our shortlist. Do you know they take camping cheques from the 17th August. I've emailed them to see if we can prebook which another UKCS member did when they stayed there a couple of years ago.
