Glad you got your money back even though youre without a van. Don't let it put you off buying another though. It was just an unlucky purchase.

Frank,

where abouts are you?

My pil were van hunting and a brilliant dealership called norwich caravans was able to get them a brand new lunar quaser 626  in less than a month.

so if you are in norfolk they may be worth trying.

goodluck

I tend to agree with the above. We took months to finally decide to buy a new van after reading horror stories about most makes.

In the end we decided to bite the bullet and have bought
a Bailey series 6 GT60. Generally speaking I understand that their warranty is good - but I don't really want to test it.

If you do buy another Bailey I'm sure they will look after you a lot better in the future after this.

oh and we have a damp bailey discovery mars which needs 2 complete new sides due to damp coming iin through a seam on the roof as the front panel was faulty, all very complicated.

we found out in april and our van will finally be heading off for her major rebuild in october. so although your outcome was awful you got it sorted out very quickly.

Thanks for all the replys,  i wonder if they will  too

The whole   sorry tale has really put us off  buying another van !

The dealer could had easly  offered us a replacment  ( which they  had/ still have in stock  , but  no they  decided to "  hard  ball   "

we offered to  pay towards    a replacemet , but they wanted £3500     to replace our new van  which we had used for 9  days !

This Dealer   has no idea of customer  service or  how to  apply  the sale of goods act, , its a shame  that  as a major  Bailey agent  they have such a bad attitude once they have taken your money .

I know our 540/6 ranger  s 5  is   awaiting its new buyer and i wonder if the dealer  will tell  buyers about is  damp/ mouldy problems !!!!!!!!!!!!!

If any one wants there  details  so they you   dont make the same  mistake  of buying  off  this Dealer   just pm me   for  their  name  ,

one tip  my            Greatest Thought,                                               even when buying  a  new or second  hand van  spend time doing a damp  test Before  handing over  your money .   do nt  trust the fact that its a brand new  van , like we did !

If I was the Bailey's MD I would be cringing reading this thread and I would have posted on here to reassure future customers that Baileys Guarantee WAS worth the paper it was written on and that Baileys were going to extreme lengths to ensure that thier agents and dealer network treated thier customers properly.  I personally wouldnt touch Baileys now with the longest Barge Pole in the country.

The supplying dealership was probably more to blame here  which does not do Baileys credibility any good , and there are however many Bailey owners like myself who have a good customer back up . Indeed i have just bought my 4th Bailey new and have nothing but praise for my supplying dealership . I bought an Explorer group Elddis not so many years ago and had loads of problems within 14 months of it being new including damp . So the point is that there are problems with ALL makes i would still consider buying an Elddis again because i am not that narrow minded to assume that just because i had problems the first time it would happen again

We had a similar problem with our new Swift Challenger caravan bought 2007. Lots of faults and damp.It took 14 months to sort out and we eventually settled for a replacement new caravan, Swift again but a Conqueror(We had to pay a bit extra). We must say we are delighted with this one, no major problems and it has just been in for its 12 months service. It seems as though it was built at a different factory altogether.Perhaps Swift have eventually got their quality control sorted out and all vans thoroughly checked before they leave the factory as well as at each stage of their build. No shoddy workmanship should be accepted as it is we poor caravanners that have to put up with all the hassle and worry.Caravan manufacturers should stand up and be counted and not hide all the time behind the dealerships.

To Frank007, you have been treated so badly by this dealer why are you not posting their name right here for all to see?

I am glad for you that you finally got your money refunded, but imagine that most people will probably not bother to contact you to find this out unless they're thinking of buying now/soon. Also folks can't guess very well when they don't know your location. Surely they deserve to be named & shamed ?

There isn't a pm facility on the forum, you can email webby and ask them to pass on your email to another person, or some people (like us) have a link on their signature that you can click to email them.

The dealer probably won't sell you the GT60 because it has the same fault as yours. He's saving it for another poor unsuspecting soul.

incidentally, the rule on credit cards refunding your money also applies if you only pay your deposit by credit card. You can still claim the full purchase price back.

Most caravan & car dealers discourage you from paying by credit card by charging an extra 3% but this isn't much an a couple of hundred quid deposit.
