I know ehat you mean Stephen. I have read on these forums a few times (and a debate has ensued) that using EHU and TVs is not proper caravanning. We are like you, we always get what we can afford, if its 5 star and we can afford it then so be it. We aint foolish and still shop around for deals but I didnt go from tent to TT to Caravan to live in misery with the kids. Even when I had a TT I had a TV and Freeview with a large pole with aerial on! Why not? I had a PortaPotti (in my opinion one of the best inventions of modern times) and all the frills.

The point of camping is to enjoy the fresh air and get away from it all. I have a stressful job indeed, and sitting at sunrise in the morning, with a cup of tea listening to the birds is my tonic (then the kids get up....)

I for one have every gadget to make my life easier. I want my van to be a home from home. We have Sky TV, DVD and Freeview. We take the netbook with Broadband Sim Card in - very handy to explore what's on offer around the area and the best food and stuff to cook it on.

I dont use onisite shower facilities - I love my own shower it lovely. Again i see people with huge twin axle's with what I know to have super separate shower units - hobbling along a muddy pitch to get to the shower block whilst pouring with freezing rain in their pyjamas!! I just dont get it.

I wouldnt even consider going on a site without EHU - why the hell should I sit worrying about the battery draining when I swtich on the lights - even without kids I wouldnt do it. Each to their own but I question sitting in a field, wearing cardigans to save the gas and playing scrabble - doing number two's in the chemical toilet and looking forward to taking it all home to empty cause there was no chemical disposal.

Enjoy your facilities, enjoy your gadgets and enjoy your van - christ we pay enough for the bloody things! As long as you enjoy your hobby then it's ok with me.
