I am now the proud owner of a 2007 Adria Altea 502 We are very happy and have just spent the last few hours trying out the cooker/hob/heater etc and trying to learn how all the systems function. I'm itching to go away in it but have an operation in a few days time. Still, it gives me a big incentive to get better quickly so we can all enjoy it.
Anyone got any tips for Altea's or have a 960 length awning for sale?
we have just got the new altea 542dk (triple bunk) its brill love it 2 bits & cant wait to get back out! We had a real basic van before so are still sussing out all the bits like heating, water & cooker (which isn't working but will be sorted under warrenty when its serviced). Love the Adria's plenty of space inside, we too are after a new awning 1000cm , but are making do with our spacelite for now.
Wish you a speedy recovery so you can get back out there!
Operation done, hoping to get away in a week or two but can't understand the electrical side of this van.
It has a leisure battery fitted and all wired in, on inspection the battery was completely flat but after several days on a 'big' charger it's now fully charged. What I don't understand is whether the battery charges up when we're on an EHU?
If it does not charge when we are on an EHU, does this mean that the battery will go flat and none of the lights in the van will work anymore and just the 240v sockets/fridge will work? Sorry for the newbie questions but I don't want to go out and leave us all in the dark.
I do have manuals, which include several types of electrical unit fitted, that might as well be written in sanskrit. Can anyone offer any help/advice
as far as i know the battery will charge while you use the ehu so the lights should be fine unless the battery is totally flat in which case you will have to give it full charge, it will charge while your towing if you have twin electrics or the new 13 pin socket. Ours has a switch inside by the tv point that u flick on & it tells you have much charge is left in the battery. I'm still unsure whether i trust it as its new system to us the old van worked everything on ehu, so still keep the trusty wind up torches to hand!
Thanks for replying, I've looked and can't see a similar switch on the Altea. I think that the battery only charges when the car is wired up to the van. I believe that all the on-board systems work when on an EHU, but the transformer does not produce sufficient voltage to charge the battery.
I am considering plugging in a 3 stage battery charger when we are on an EHU, to keep the battery charged up. Does anyone have any views on this? The battery is fitted inside the van, under one of the sofas. I've got an Argos 3 stage charger, would that be OK?
I would check with the previous owner or dealer. My old Altea didnt have a battery and all the 12V electric worked off a transformer. There was a stab in point for a battery and IIRC the transformer supplied the 12V power until the supply (EHU) failed at which point the battery would kick in. Therefore you will need a separate battery charger. Also I dont think the battery charges from the car whilst on the move. the Adria set up is to be fair a little more rudimentary than most of the uk set ups.
where is your battery located? Our Altea came with the battery already in place and as far as I know it charges up when on hook up or connected to the battery (we've never had any problems with flat batteries anyway)
However I know that previous versions didn't come with a battery and people would have had to get them fitted some how it is these ones that will not charge when fitted to electric hook up. I would have thought a 2007 model would include it, but maybe it was just from 2008 someone on here will be able to help you out.
We love our Altea we bought it last year, so much room!
The battery is located under the front o/s bench (in front of the fridge). Its fitted in a proper looking plastic box with quick release clamps etc. It looks like it is factory fitted, I just can't see any mention in the various electric board options that say the battery will be charged on an EHU.
Our 2005 Altea has a battery in the o/s front bench, and it charges when hooked up to the car and ehu on site. Not had any problems at all with the battery. Hubby has gone to bed so i can't ask him about it though.
When your OH is up and about please can you check whether there are any additional bits fitted that enable the battery to charge on an EHU, I don't want to fork out on a charger that may already be fitted.
We have a 2008 Altea 542 Uk and we have no charger or meter (battery condition) just an "ON" switch on the main controller). We have a battery as a battery box and terminal were supplied via Adria. We were told the 542UK has no charger. All 12V appliances run off either the EHU at 12V or the battery at 12V (no EHU) . Therefore we take our smart charger with us as we have a mover fitted and after moving the van out of storage and then onto a pitch we have found the 110amp battery to be a bit down on volts. Other than that however we have never just left the battery attached whilst on EHU and see what happens , you never know. (on a side note though a few months after purchasing the van, in the dealership the same caravan had a notice on warning potential buyers that no charging system was fitted).
Considering though upgrading to a chargeable unit .
