been away this weekend and i have a question about our fridge. When running on EHU there is a cold draught coming from under the fridge., so cold we need the heating on. The seal is ok on the fridge it seems to be coming from underneath. My fridge at home expels warm air shouldn't a caravan one be the same?

Thought it might be a draft from outside but it is a constant stream of cold air so wondered wether anyone else gets the same.

Your fridge will definitely produce warm air which is vented outside whether you use gas or electricity.

I expect that the cold air coming in from the bottom of the fridge will be an air inlet to ensure proper combustion of the gas flame.

Perhaps on this instance the wind was in such a direction to create an unpleasant draught.

hi the warm air will go to the outside of the van through the vents.i think you will find most caravans have this draught coming through the openings of the fridge, depends on which way the wind is blowing.not there when the awning is on.

the only silly question is the one you do not ask.

thanks guys

the problem is always there even on still days. i am sure it isn't right. you would definately know if it was happening to your fridge.

The only thing i have thought might cure it is there is the big hole in the base of the caraven with wire mesh over it and wondered wether this needed a shield around it (plastic) as there is one under my oven that says do not obstruct. Wondered wether this got missed when first installed.

I think the most important factor is warm air rises so its unlikely that any heat generated from the fridge will come out the bottom. Ive never noticed any warm air on our Dometic fridge so I doubt you will either. As in other replies its a knocking bet that the cold air is coming out of the vent in the floor of your cvan under your fridge.

This time of year the drafts from these vents can be quite a nuisance but as the days warm up they are less noticeable.

Well spotted need to check before submitting in future.

Still not sure if it is from outside as last summer it was still present and it was cold air. Colder than outside temp. Has anyone felt the same in there tintent?

I mentioned this last month in another posting, only to get one of the so-called know-alls on this forum pouring scorn on the problem.

We had a Bailey Pageant Vendee, which was a very draughty caravan, and very cold at this time of the year. As you have described there were vents under the floor below the cooker and the fridge, as well as the two normal fridge vents. Under the fridge and cooker themselves were two large air spaces into the caravan.

First, did you fit winter covers to your outside fridge vents, this would have helped.

Second, if the draught is blowing in under your fridge, there must be somewhere else where it is getting out. In our van there was a massive 1cm gap all round the large front roof vent. You could actually get your fingers between the vent cover and the sides of the vent. This was normal apparently.

For adequate ventilation you do not need anything like this ventilation area, I think these days some of the caravan manufacturers work on the overkill principle. You end up with no condensation, but then you have a van which is very draughty and difficult to keep warm when used early or late in the season.

We changed to a folding camper from the Bailey and it was far less draughty!
