Just like your wife i find camping very cold too, just got back from camping last weekend. We were soaked to the bone putting it up and cold throughout the trip, i love the camping experience just want a few home comforts including not having to walk across a field in the middle of the night!!!! Go on make your wife happy im still trying to convince OH its the right move for us. As you we would also have to up grade the car.

You can start on a cheap van if you fancy trying it and keep the tent. I love my caravan but also have a campervan and still have my Outwell family dome under the stairs just in case!! As you can se I like to have all options covered!! LOL

we have just upgraded from a tent to a caravan last week, went away, enjoyed the extra room but due to the wind never came out of the awning, if we had had the tent we would have had to sit outside, extra space for the kids aswell, money wise cost us considerably more than we had budgetted for, caravan £1000, storage £250/year, had to have specially made towbar as my husband has a big car but the standard towbar didnt fit £356, therefore now looking at very basic weekends away due to cost, on the up side, kids not crushed in car due to camping gear, dogs have space and we can have the van set up in approx 10mins without awning so if raining we arent getting wet. my advice is look at the overall cost and add abit more if you cant afford it Argos have a lovely pink fan heater for £18 which made our tent lovely and warm within minutes last season and dried out our wet shoes when it flooded.

hope this helps

Hi debby4

If you are looking for cheap weekends away join the C&CC or CC and they have rallys most weekends 2 nights away on a farmers feild usually for about £5-7 a night and there is usually one within 3/4hours drive I am a tenter and joined this year been away twice with the rallys so far and had a good time you can go to any regions rally and they do some over the summer on the coast some by really good site you have access too. About £10 a night. You DO need a loo as they only usually have a tap and disposal point on site

Hi

We have just bought a caravan October last yr and have been away three times since (bonfire night, new yr and easter) We bought a tent last yr also after deciding it costs too much to holiday in the Sun with a family (2 kids) Sadly i ahve a bad back and the tent was subsequently sold, and a New caravan purchased, And we love it, tried to do it a few yrs back but the car was not upto it, so spent the money on foreign holdays (bad move really). All in all we have 7 holdays booked this yr so far, with the main two week break (in summer holdays) all for a princely some of £530.00. We are memeber of the CC bit vwith some ringing around have found some private sites even cheaper. As for down side the tent was in the garage, but caravan is on a gold Cassoa site so £440.00/yr, however due to that insurance is low at £220.00/yr. (Caravan is new Adria 542 UK). The initla outlay was big, but not as big as the smiles on the kids faces when we are away and thats priceless.

Enjoy.

Chris:-)

We have just purchased our first Caravan after many years camping which we have enjoyed but decided that after last years wash out summer a Caravan would help for the typical British summer.

That aside the wife was also always cold in the evenings and during the night and she couldn't enjoy herself too much due to weak bladder problems and the issues around going to the loo (or bucket!) in the night. Now we have plunged for the caravan she can't wait and are venturing down to Pentewan Sands in Cornwall next week for our first outing.

Still keeping the tent just in case!
