We have spoken to our dealer - they have fitted 4 Camos domes in the last year to Baileys - reckon it is the strongest caravan roof around. They cannot understand the Bailey "spokesman"'s statement as they obviously spoke to Bailey before fitting the first dome. the Camos is much lighter than the conventional roof fitted dishes -it only weighs 12.5 kg.

However, we are still going to double check with Bailey to make sure that we are not invalidating our warranty.

Could the problem be that looking at the instructions it is only glued to the roof. The Aluminium is only 2 mm thick and I am not sure the Aluminuim it is attached to the roof all over with glue. This would cause the Aluminium skin to lift and perhaps tare. Maybe if it is attached and screwed through to the underlying structure it would be ok. This is what they do with Air Conditioning units. This is where I think you need to ask Bailey for there input on this to get the true story.

Have just spoken to the technical people at Bailey - they cannot see a problem and are not advising us to not fit it - the only thing that they did say is that obviously tif there were a problem with the actual point where the Camos is fitted this would be something covered by our dealer (as the fitter) and not by them. If we were fitting an Oyster type of dish they would recommend fitting it where the aerial is as this is the only point on the roof specifically designed for such a pole to go through, as far as a wire going through the roof he said that this should not cause any problem.
We are now quite happy to go ahead and get our dealer to fit the dome - it has worked perfectly on our Sterling for several years so we can't see why it won't on the Bailey.
Very impressed with Bailey customer service - spoke to Kelly and she had someone from technical/design speaking to me within 2 minutes.

Two totally different answers from the technical department of Bailey!

I very carefully explained how the dome would be fitted by using glue.

I am sure you will get the supplying dealer to give you a written guarantee on the installation.

No problems in snow we were on a site in central france and it snowed quite heave did not affect picture at all , we looked at Camos dome and as you say not so prone to problems in high winds but will not receive ITV or BBC in far reaches of Europe as only have 50cm capability , the guy next to me on the Algarve had camos dome on his rapido motorhome and could not get ITV or BBC at all where we had ITV all the time and BBC most of the time . Depends where you want to go in Europe because we go to the far west of portugal the Oyster 85 cm has the best chance of receiving these channels

The Camos static 30 or 40 domes and the "In motion" Camos domes are great for motorhomes, but the better "Domed" option for caravans is the KVH Tracvision.

Bailey roof - I seem to remember a publicity photo with about 6 big Bailey blokes standing on the roof of a series5 Pageant to demonstrate how strong it was - seems their comments now are a bit at odds.

We now have our 40 cm Camos dome fitted to our new Senator - not a problem. On top of that the digi box is now wired into the Bailey TV/DVD etc system, sites perfectly on top of the Radio/DVD player, held on with industrial velcro, our box has a very remote which is fitted under the wall cupboard so that we don't have to open the locker door to change channels. Very happy with the set up, no external wiring, very neat and tidy set up. All 12 volt too so no problem when not on mains.

"Can i ask why the KVH is better for caravans?"

The KVH r4 even though it is a couple of kilos heavier, distributes its weight over a much broader base area....less stress on the thinner caravan rooves!

Although the camos will do fine....we recommend KVH for caravans (In our experience).

once bailey have realised that the public want this type of sat dish they will start to offer it as one of their overpriced extras, untill then you will get differing answers, just like the polish fiasco and the panels crazing when infact it was something to do with the panels and how they were fitted rather than a problem caused by the polish used, from reading the various forums
